Reddit hints that U.S. now spying on its customers

Social networking forum reddit on Thursday removed a section from its site used to tacitly inform users it had never received a certain type of U.S. government surveillance request, suggesting the platform is now being asked to hand over customer data under a secretive law enforcement authority.
Reddit deleted a paragraph found in its transparency report known as a “warrant canary†to signal to users that it had not been subject to so-called national security letters, which are used by the FBI to conduct electronic surveillance without the need for court approval.
The scrubbing of the "canary", which stated reddit had never received a national security letter "or any other classified request for user information," comes as several tech companies are pushing the Obama administration to allow for fuller disclosures of the kind and amount of government requests for user information they receive.

It's called a "warrant canary." Here's the logic: Although a company can't say when it has received a National Security Letter, it can say when it has not received one. So, some companies have included special language in public statements saying things like, "We haven't received an NSL yet."
The idea is, when an NSL comes around, the language disappears. It's like a canary in a coal mine that dies when exposed to toxic gas.
Only a few companies – mostly high tech ones that have a strong pro-privacy stance – have adopted this, such as websites Pinterest, Reddit, and Tumblr, software maker Adobe, phone maker Silent Circle, and mobile cybersecurity company Lookout.
In Reddit's case, the company previously included this language in its 2014 "transparency report," which documented how many times governments have requested information on Reddit users.
"As of January 29, 2015, reddit has never received a National Security Letter," the company wrote then. "If we ever receive such a request, we would seek to let the public know it existed."
That language disappeared in its next transparency report.

Truth is folks there is no global network, no internet, it's ALL a wave of the hands magic trick to keep you slurping and asking for seconds. VPN isn't a magic make internet work box , and it's illegal. You know what's not illegal ? SHovning your foppy D bus into my hard wired router over the batman mesh , that is called a bootstrap p2p network and it's literally impossible to write a law around that without just outright making computing illegal.
North Korea and my neighborhood growing up both ran on the sneakernet, guess who else is running on it right now. Islamic Afghanistan has gone full sneakernet, and they are even cracking down on that and probably computers networking at all.
That's pretty fucked up but despite this technology being older than a fidonet dog (Sit bobob sit good goy!) it has one fundamental difference, you can't arrest someone SUSPECTED of a crime, you can monitor a node and try to pin them but you can't just stomp your boots and brute force your way in like they can/do now when you call someone a niggertranny fagot in Poland.
