   when people say they want to get to know somebody else, do they mean that they literally want to find out how that person thinks and the experiences that have shaped their worldview today? or does it just mean they want to talk about baseball or whatever and maybe drink 3 beers?

   It's a period of time between two people who share aspects of their life that may be of the same interest of the other, particularly during the time frame when to two individuals are seriously considering a relationship which is more apt than not to lead to a permanent relationship: marriage.
   
   
   (BUT don't concern yourself too awfully much as I don't perceive anyone on any these types of forums of ever having an unconditional, relationship.)
