The board is all public right?
I go on some boards and CERTAIN areas A USER must register......I know you can do that but it would be cool if certain users (like bigger posters, VIP, etc) had private posts when clicked on.
Again, I love the bad ideas forum....but even police get involved when settings are open like that.
Eh....rant mode off. Good work though for bringing back TOTSEish past life :)

if the police are concerned they'll either make an account or give Lanny a big floppy subpoenis anyway. Having it open improves search ranking, assuming people start posting worthwhile stuff in there. Just use tor/a VPN if you're concerned for your safety, it's always best to assume the site is already compromised

In Bad Ideas on Zoklet, we had a fraud investigator (CIC) and a real FBI agent (Cicero) create accounts, and everyone wanted them banned. But I figured if you ban them, that won't really accomplish anything. They can 1/just make another account, 2/look at it as obstructing justice/interfering in an investigation, or 3/become more determined to dig even deeper.

The investigator from the CIC actually PM'd me and asked if he was going to be banned. He said, "Why ban me when I've broken no rules and other members are?" I told him, no, he wouldn't be banned, but he should not cause a disturbance on the board by threatening users. Then he went right out and started making a disturbance on the board and threatening users. So I messaged him back and told him if he persists he would be banned, because one of Totse rules was (it was Zoklet flying under the Totse flag) not to threaten harm to other members. Then he stopped threatening and just lurked for a couple more weeks until Cicero brought Henderson in, then he came back to gloat a bit and abandoned his account shortly thereafter.
