A Warning for Upstate SC Residents

  1. #1
About 8k miles ago I had my brakes serviced by quick lane in Greer SC, a garage recommended by a family member that did preventative maintenance, mostly for fords but any other make as well. I know how to replace brakes but I always preferred to have the professionals do it. I drive a 2002 Toyota Camry. About 1k miles after it was done, I started hearing a grinding noise that was not bad but worrisome enough, so I brought it back, asking what was going on. They said that my rotors were not making sufficient contact with the brake pads and that everything else was fine. So I ended up paying 150 to have that fixed, bringing the total to 280 for a single axle brake job. 8k miles later, this is the result. The one on the left is from my front right wheel, and is consistent with the level of wear expected for about 8k miles. The one on the right is from my front left, which I started hearing grinding noises from about two weeks ago, same number of miles. I wish I had taken a picture of the rotor, it felt like asphalt to the touch. They didn't put the hardware kit on the front left and it destroyed my brake pad in less than 1/5 of normal time. Both brakes and rotors had to be replaced. Thankfully it was a 5-speed and I could mostly slow down using the clutch for the two weeks I had to drive it like that (I work from 6am to 6pm and couldn't have it serviced until yesterday), or I very well could've destroyed the entire brake assembly. Tire Corral in Spartanburg, SC replaced everything that had been damaged for 160, and did it right. They even let me watch them fix it. inb4cuck'd

Pretty slim chance this will be relevant to anyone here. Have you posted this elsewhere? Much better places if you want to stick it to them.
