It's the exact opposite of most of them - The Matrix for example, written by people who obviously don't know all that much about how computer systems and networks work, but wanted to make a serious film about it.
Hackers was written by people who were actually a part of the subculture and involved with the groups of the time, who wanted to make a 'fun' movie that wasn't all that serious...

This is one of my favourite films of all times.. 1980s vision of house appliances being ran by a home PC which didn't really exist back then nor for another 10-15 years to come.
(well it's a comedy with Bud Cort and Virgina Madison)
