I have a pirated copy of Acrobat Pro, but it's way too clunky for me and I'm too lazy to figure out how to fuck with the activation besides. Are there superior, preferably free alternatives to this shitty software? If not, how am I misusing that I'm having this experience? Should I bite the bullet and pay for it?

I though Adobe was all CC/subscription based now.

Acrobat is a clunky POS, but still the best, especially when used with Illustrator.

You're right, they only offer the DC version by subscription now, which is $180 USD per year and it's total bullshit. I'm never going to do that and I don't know anybody who would. I'm looking for a crack, but in the meantime, I'm stuck with limited functionality and really slow performance. I read a lot of e-books, so this is becoming a dealbreaker.

Can't you just open them in Chrome?

My university had a shitty PDF editor called Foxit, so I know there are some semi-legitimate programs out there for people who don't want to buy Acrobat, I just have to find them!

That's also too clunky for me, plus Chrome hasn't been playing nice with my MacBook for close to a year now, random packet corruption or whatever.

I already have that, but I don't think it lets you modify PDFs.

I appreciate your effort, but the online editor is size-restricted and I open a lot of huge PDF, and the desktop version is Windows only. Thanks anyway, nigga.

It's actually help to anyone else who might need it, not you specifically.

Fair enough. If I find anything desktop-oriented worth sharing with Mac users, I'll post a link as well.

Why are you trying to edit a PDF? The sprawling and oft extend standard coupled with highly inconsistent rendering strategies make editing PDFs generally a bad idea. Unless you have no other option, just get the source document, edit that, and re-generate the PDF. If you're trying to do something like annotations there are better options than direct editing.

Yeah, I really have no good reason to be editing PDFs, apart from an austist!c urge to isolate individual excerpts out of LotR e-books for printing and annotating, which is a terrible waste of time. You're 100% right about the direct editing; I've never been able to do that satisfactorily, not even with Acrobat. I might just use the built-in "Preview" application for Macs and forget about all of this.
