A POWERFUL staple of my childhood. Cartoon express shit y'een know. So many fun characters and adventures to be had on the daily, it was like got dang I need more of this in my life.
Personally my favorite character was Randy if for no other reason than his role in my most memorable clip of the show where Pee-Wee is trying to avoid getting sick and Randy comes down on his cringe strings and coughs and sneezes in his face a bunch. hahaha
In the greatest episode of all time. It fucking starts off with a somersault. That's fucking OG shit.

So, Pee Wee was originally designed to be R rated. It was done on a local cable channel if I'm not mistaken and picked up around 1981 on the TV station NightFlights on USA network which was predated MTV as a music and eclectic tv show that would run hours usually on Friday and Saturday nights. they would play PeeWee herman and then some music video then some weird bits of films.
kind of a variety show for stoners getting high.
It was a 1980s version of Netflix and Chill.
great times. smoke weed, drink beer, cuddle up with a highschool girlfriend and laugh at stupid shit.
then one of the big 3 networks decided it would be a good idea to put PeeWee on for kids. and it went to the big screen. then Peewee gets into trouble for smoking crack at and accused of masturbating in a theater (which was later dropped)
and blame Paul Ruben for tainting the Peewee image when all along it was meant for Adult Humor. they even had Phil Hartman on it pre SNL. they were Groundling performers. Groundling is Frat Humor.. a Comedy Troupe from the Second City performers.. people like John Belushi and Chevy Chase and Gilda Radner (all members of the National Lampoons x rated Comix underground group)
these big wig fgts in New York and Hollywood are just a bunch of direct blame when shit hits the fan.
