2018-04-28 at 2:29 PM UTCLook, rape sucks and it needs to stop. But they need to speak up about it instead of taking bribes for it.
For example, let's say your boss called you into his office and randomly beat the shit out of you for no reason. assault and battery, correct?
But say he offered you $100,000 (or a promotion) to not say a word about it, and you took the offer. Charges never filed. Years go by.
But then another new employee gets the same treatment a few years later, and speaks out and presses charges instead of taking the offer. Then numerous employees speak out about having gotten the shit beat out of them by the same boss over all these years, but all took bribes to stay quiet.
Yeah, it was not your fault that you (and all other employees) got the shit beat out of you for no reason, but by taking the bribe and not saying anything, you are allowing the boss to get away with it. If you had not taken the bribe and instead spoke up about it, the abuse could've stopped with you. -

There are a few words that you're forgetting that answer some of your questions: witness intimidation, and out-of-court-settlement. You're a recently traumatized woman, and your abuser's lawyer comes and tells you that your face and name will be dragged through the mud in a costly and harmful public trial unless you accept a one-time offer of more than a million dollars. I'm sure the language was much harsher than that. Do you really think these victims were whores? They were made to believe that they had to protect themselves. Cosby set up a business model for his predation. -

I can't speak for everyone, but if something like that happened to me, I wouldn't give a shit what happened to me or my name, I would make sure everyone knew what happened
Really, who cares what some shyster fuck tells you? The worst that can happen is you have to file for bankruptcy because of court costs. Sure, it's a high cost, but I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I took that kind of bribe knowing damn well that my assailant was going to keep doing that shit to others.
"Whores" seems a bit harsh. I'd probably go with "rapist enablers"They were made to believe that they had to protect themselves. Cosby set up a business model for his predation.
I'm not sure what you mean by this. -

Lol, I almost posted something like
"Not to mention the fact that 75% of Americans would probably LOVE to get raped by someone of the opposite sex and then paid six figures to keep quiet. I know i would."
along with that retarded rant earlier but...I don't know, it seems reasonable enough but it's probably different when discussed theoretically as opposed to it actually happening randomly out of the blue -

I mean that there was likely a palpable but not explicit threat and it allowed him to pay these women off and continue raping them with no fear of retaliation. Your assessment requires that they were relatively in command of their emotional and intellectual faculties, which they likely weren't. You assume they could have reasonably dropped everything in their lives pursuing doomed charges against a beloved millionaire. Then his lawyer says that they can either have a bunch of money and never have to talk about their experience again, or they can relive it in a courtroom many times over while they go bankrupt and probably still lose. Your expectations of these rape victims just aren't realistic.
It's not a coincidence that most of these victims took the money: there was coercion involved. A rape victim isn't in the mindset to be handling their legal affairs, so when some jedi puts the squeeze on them, they give. Painting the situation as though they're enabling him with full cognizance doesn't apprehend the full scope of his crime because when they were given the choice, it really wasn't presented as a choice at all. -

I think his side still holds up. All of that being true, then .. yep. That's what happened. And you should lose your right to bring it up a bunch of years later. You're aiding and abetting the longer you stay quiet, it's that simple. The following users say it would be alright if the author of this post didn't die in a fire! -
2018-04-28 at 7:18 PM UTCThis argument usually occurs in degrees: in a morally underdeveloped person, it might be more like, "Why would these gold diggers let Cosby rape them?" You, on the other hand, I would say have the least wrong iteration, "Why would they enable him by taking the money?" The answer to both is that he's a savvy predator who wants to keep being a predator. Imagine if Bill Krozby had double the IQ and unlimited financial resources to take on shysters who do his dirty work, and that's what we're dealing with.

2018-04-28 at 7:19 PM UTCIf I ever become a millionaire I will track down and molest each of you to prove that anybody can be bought. It's not about getting rich, it's about staying silent. And that's what you'll do.
