Someone at work recommended this podcast to me:

Some of Pauls claims I found interesting:

    - Fungi evolved a billion years before us, they are our ancient elders and ancestors a billion years more evolved than we are

    - Mycelium can create complex efficient networks not dissimilar from our own neural networks and can demonstrate intelligence

    - Fungi are the sentient architects of our environment and our existence, they design and create ecosystems over great timescales

There is a whole lot more as well. I hope some of you enjoy this.

He's not wrong, and I look forward to watching this, it can take the place of Fash the Nation, which I already heard once, but am bored as fuck with nothing for background noise.

Its an excellent podcast, saw it a few months ago.

Paul was the one who inspired me to read up on mycelium.

How exactly does "more evolved" describe fungi, the sort of life that has only evolved slightly in the last several hundreds of millions of years relative to who have evolved, and continue to evolve, radically during that time period?

    This.

Fungi have been around for a long time, this does not make them more evolved though.

Looking at a phylogeny, I would argue that Humans are more evolved, as we have had a longer list of common ancestors, each one leading to some sort of change due to evolution.

I don't know, I think it's because he claims they are/have been intelligently shaping our planet for eons while we are kind of "new" at this, but I've only watched about half the podcast so far.

Obviously these are the rantings of a mentally disturbed individual. I’m guessing his brain is super fucked up due to all the droogz.

Fungi are definitely intriguing though, and deserve further study. I’m interested in the mechanisms involved with certain fungal life forms that can infect a host brain and significantly influence their behavior.

Not only fungi do this. There are parasites that live in cats and mice, frogs and herons, ladybugs and wasps, and others that are capable of altering an organisms behavior. Even our own behavior can be influenced by parasites, or by other various factors, like hunger.

You’re right, when I get hungry it makes me want to eat. I never noticed that before
