   The only concern is while you're actually pumping the gas. There is even a risk of static shock igniting. Otherwise, it's fine, and you're just being retarded by acting like you find the idea weird because your entire country would never do that. In fact, I'm almost certain you're just wrong and there are ashtrays that you just don't notice because you don't use them. And if they aren't there, it's probably just because your country is anti-freedom and are much more restrictive on smoking in public and want to discourage it. If there weren't ashtrays in places like that over here, people would litter the butts. I mean, they still do, but they'd do it even more.

   There would have to be a pretty major gas leak for it to happen. I remember reading an article a couple years ago about some lady who had a spilt gas can in her garage. Went to get in her car in the morning and some static shock ignited the fumes and she immolated herself.

   There's been no ashtrays here in 40 years at least. When I was a teen you could smoke on trains, buses even in the cinema. Every seat would have an ashtray on the back.

   If it was leaking that bad, it would be very visible and probably nobody would be there pumping gas because they would most likely be closed while making repairs.
