We have a moral obligation to stop eating meat
-
2018-04-17 at 2:40 PM UTCThere is one good reason to go vegan, and that's as an excuse to consume more soy. The stuff is delicious, and tofu is a wonderful ingredient that lends itself to a wide range of culinary options.
Soy milk is wonderful and lasts longer than cow milk - you don't even need to refrigerate it. It has no lactose which can make you fart, or nasty chemical hormones. It's also far cheaper.
Tofu is a delight to cook with, and is incredibly versatile. Frozen tofu acquires a wonderful consistency that is just delightful.
Textured soy protein is also wonderful and a superior substitute to carcass based meat. It has no fat and no risk of diseases.
I suggest everyone stop eating meat and start eating soy, for the good of the planet, of yourselves, and of our animal friends. -

I'm afraid there's not a lot I can do about that except give up interstate travel and reduce harm to animals in other areas of my life.

I think that we should aim to reduce and eventually eliminate this. I'm sure that we could develop sufficient pest deterrents which don't kill the pests.

I know this is a joke, but the trick for freezing tofu to achieve a better consistency is a good one that all vegetarians/vegans should know about. Still, I seldom consume soy. Not because I'm afraid of phytoestrogens, but because I don't like most soy-based foods. -

those animals were killed for their meat, the leather are just the waste materials that are being produced irregardless of people wearing them or not.
do you know that ALL druggs are tested on animals ??? do you take druggs ??? do you not know that these animals suffer when their being used for the purposes of drug testing ??? -

They're entirely different, and are treated differently by my position. We aren't producing new fossil fuels, and there isn't an ongoing demand for animals in the oil industry.
As for leather, some vegetarians/vegans are okay with secondhand leather shoes they've bought at thrift shops. I consider this a violation of our principles, however, and I refuse to buy them myself.do you know that ALL druggs are tested on animals ??? do you take druggs ??? do you not know that these animals suffer when their being used for the purposes of drug testing ???
What you aren't understanding is that my vegetarianism isn't so that I can be 'pure' and free of all animal products. That will never happen, not in my lifetime at least. Some vegans/vegetarians get caught up in being a paragon of ascetic self-denial, but I don't think that's in the interest of the animals.
I do take a couple of medications that I expect were tested on animals at some point, but I can't afford not to. That's not exactly the same as willfully eating meat on a daily basis, which is neither necessary nor morally permissible, but I also recognize that it's something to be avoided and I hope to be off of them soon.
The world isn't perfect, though, and neither am I, but I reduce my impact wherever possible and I do a much better job of it when compared to most vegetarians without refusing medications that I need. I hope that I'll see animal-free drug testing in my lifetime, because I've signed every petition I can get my hands on. -

most leathers used in clothing are waste materials and byproducts of the meat industry. they are going to be produced irregardless of you wearing leather or not.
your reason for refusing to buy and wear them is irrational.
its just like saying you refused buying or using anything made of recycled paper or plastics to prevent more deforestation or deep sea drilling. What you aren't understanding is that my vegetarianism isn't so that I can be 'pure' and free of all animal products. no, what you dont understand is that your not really a vegan at all, just a mere convenient vegan.
your a vegan when and only when its convenient for you to do so. your a vegan when your stomick is full and your loitering in a first world country.
but once shit hits the fan and your starving and bleeding youll gladly slurp that beef substrate off the floor like a good little bitch.
your the kind of person that will go on to become the kind of jedis that assisted the nazis in keeping other jedis interned ... or uncle toms that help the white men keeping other blacks down. or something.
no. your either a vegan, or your not. anything else in betwixt and between is just pure faggotry.
YOUR A PRACTITIONER OF PHAGGOTRY. -

I'd like to see some sources on leather as a byproduct of meat production, but either way the fact that the animals are already being killed for meat doesn't exactly make me feel okay about wearing their skin.
I'm not a vegan, I'm a vegetarian. It's hardly a matter of convenience. I would starve before I ate meat. -

It's really not a matter of all-or-nothing, despite your insistence without ethical scaffolding to support the notion. I can't get around taking the medications, but that doesn't mean that the meat I don't eat isn't eaten in vain. Every step you take in the right direction counts, as long as you keep your eyes fixed on abolition. -

^ convenient vegan.
if you ''cant'' get around taking meds, you wont be able to get around starving, for a variety of yet to be thought up excuses. -

What about all the animals that get hit and killed by all machines that harvest your veggies and by the trucks that deliver them? -

Do you think the fact that some animals are harmed during the production of plant based food really represents some kind of moral quandary here? -

this is stupid noob. stupid noob is 9/10 of a man he used to be.
stupid noob is 9/10 of a man he used to be becos he was a victim of the corn industrial complex. a tenth of him was taken from him in exchange for minimum wage and untold amount of suffering when he worked to bring corn from the farm to your table.
we have moral obligation to stop eating corns.
