If there is an important thing to do, but a business can't turn a profit doing it then obviously I wouldn't expect them to pursue it at their own detriment.

Curing exotic (or not ) diseases sounds great though, sounds like the perfect thing for charity to work on.

If I were in charge of a pharmaceutical company, I would develop new diseases and make people who want to be cured of one illness trade it for a new one that has no cure.

Of course it's a valid question, people are angry because they feel those who practice medicine should put the welfare of their patients first, instead of profit. Idk why you're trying to act like your too dense to see that.

Yeah, this is part of why capitalism is so fucked. Medicine shouldn't be run like a business. It's impossible to use a business model approach and not have shit come up like this, with those who run the business coming up with the only logical answer when profits are the primary concern. You see people all over the place online talking about how terrible for-profit prisons are and all the inherent flaws in allowing prisons to be run that way, but you don't really see people taking that same view when it comes to healthcare.

I think I'd set retarded-high prices on things that are not required, like ED pills and plastic surgery, then use part of the profits to actually try to find cures for things instead of just "treating the symptoms"

Shit like the OP is exactly why the world is so fucked up

Or perhaps the government could raise taxes a bit to pay for it instead of forcing everybody to get insurance AND pay out of pocket for health care? Like they do in every other first world country?

And it would be fine if it wasn't totally free, as long as it's affordable. I'm just saying that they shouldn't be able to make the insane profit margins that they make by telling dying patients "you either pay this insane price for treatment or die"

If it's something that's not life threatening like ED or plastic surgery or transition surgery or shit like that, then fine, they can charge their insane prices for it.
