No. You're thinking about the Ukrainian side. They had the skinhead groups, "punisher groups". They were not part of the military, yet had acquired military hardware via corruption. They did not answer to the government, and mostly tortured and robbed innocent civilians simply for being Russian. They also fought fiercely and with more balls than Ukrainian regulars, but at the same time were cowards in that they punished innocent civilians.
Need I remind anyone, how in WW2, when Nazis came to Ukraine, western Ukrainians put on Nazi uniforms and started killing civilians?
Need I remind anyone, that, Ukraine is not a real country? That Ukraine is a result of Russia fighting Poland through the ages? The west of the country is more Polish, the east more Russian? That this is why there is a language difference between east and west? That Ukrainian language is closer to Polish?
Need I remind anyone, that, the current Ukrainian border was drawn by a ruthless dictatorship that is responsible for over 60 million deaths of its own people? Historically, Crimea was always Russian.
There were various "Russian" factions that went to fight, mostly not ethnic Russians. There were a lot of people from caucus mountains, as well as Buryats. Then there were various Cossack and Orthodox groups that went mainly to COMBAT fascism. Ultra nationalists want to kick minorities out of Russia, not to kill other slavs.
It is easier to pull the trigger on someone of a different race. This is why so many ethnic minorities went to fight. The Russian Orthodox Army, as well as Cossacks, looked at scared, unprepared, captured Ukrainian draftees with sorrow. The ethnic minorities, however, treated them as an actual enemy that deserves only death.
Many commanders of the Peoples Militia openly blamed Ukraines sad situations on "Judeo-masons".
