Arab Countries were way less religious in the early and mid 20th Century. Islam as a relevant thing is a relatively new phenomenon, since only the 50s and 60s or so.
Russia is also experiencing an increase in religion. The fall of communism and secular regimes is really allowing religion to increase to fill the void.
Atheists don't breed - their birthrates are super low - but religious people do. Atheists are going extinct. Religious people are taking over the earth.
Even America was way less religious in the past, like in the 1920s and 1930s, than it is now. The cosmopolitan elites of the past never bred, but the rednecks did. It has imported zillions of superstitious low-IQ Latinos.

Islam is becoming radicalized because Muslims are kept poor, and because the west decided to interfere and support radical groups. When Muslims (and anyone else for that matter) have access to education and information, they do not turn to radicalism. This is why you get places like Egypt and Saudi Arabia where the elite are more moderate than the country's people. Exposure is a good thing, and it's where technology is headed.
Don't know where you get the idea that Russia's increase is disproportionate, if that's what you're saying. They are still less religious than Switzerland.

Religious people are not taking over the Earth. USA birth rate is 1.84. Saudi Arabia is 2.71. Iran is 1.68. Norway is 1.75. Birth rate has less to do with religion and more to do with poverty. Have you ever heard of the demographic transition model? The middle east is very much at stage 2. This is why birth rates are falling across the board. Countries are getting richer and richer. You can see a CLEAR difference when examining the birth rate in a rapidly developing country like India vs a relatively stagnant country like Nigeria.

India birth rate today: 2.4
Nigeria birth rate today: 5.59
