It's a simple distinction:
Republicanism is the idea that the executive authority of the government is derived from the mandate of the public.
Democracy is the concept of the public voting on things, through which they provide that mandate for executive action.
They are related concept, one is a philosophical basis for the other, the other is a practical application of the first.
All further notions emerge from that. -

in the end, even if you have ''direct democracy'' there will still be some sort of elected representative or a middle person.
and direct democracy is already in practice on the other side, the side of capital feudalists, and their elected representatives are what you call the lobbyists.
elections, and people can be elected with many other things other than just mere votes. in the case of lobbyists, thier elected with money and influences ...

I'm not convinced. Like I live in a constitutional monarchy with a democratically elected parliament I don't think of it as "republican" Although I can be pretty dense sometimes. -

The U.S. is too geographically unwieldy for such a system. I support balkanization. -

The US is also too ethnically diverse. Higher IQ whites have a propensity for libertarian individualism while niggers and low IQ whites (synonymous with liberals and communists) prefer big government collectivism. They can't peacefully coexist under the same system. -
