what did nikola tesla do that has pseudo science types sucking his dick all the time?

I'm too goddamned busy studying semiconductor physics and shitposting on NIS to spend my free time reading up on shit. I'm pretty sure this dude had some noteworthy inventions though but I'm not sure why people are obsessed with him, so if someone could let me know, that would be cool, thx.

He was a great engineer but super overhyped because he did cool electric bolts and had "plans" for cool things that would never work.

I remember having an argument with my stupid brother about how Tesla DIDN'T FUCKIMG INVENT A/C CURRENT. Nigga needs to issue a statement from the grave.

Invented alternating current if I recall, had ideas for infinite worldwide free energy and death rays, had his ideas stolen and shit upon, fucked pigeons and david bowie played him in the prestige.

Yea, that's kind of what I figure. I always hear about how he was such a great inventor and a genius but I always hear it from those types who just like to give off the image that they are "smart" without really knowing what they're talking about. I've got this friend who doesn't know shit about math or science and just does tons of drugs but he always posts this shit on facebook about fourier series and superposition and just other mathematical concepts that it's clear he has no understanding of (not that these topics are impossibly difficult to learn about or anything, but you're not going to do it without some study), lol.

Honestly, he sounds like he was everything we project onto Edison and perhaps a bit more, but all I know is that he introduced AC current as an alternative to the former's DC, but that, due to bad PR and a degree of sabotage, it never quite caught on. Beyond that, I know he was a manic, superstitious motherfucker who literally tried to talk to ghosts through electrical currents.

AC current is definitely used a shitload today.

It's interesting that a lot of scientists who were really smart also believed some really dumb shit, like how Newton poisoned himself with mercury or whatever because he had some superstitious beliefs. Sometimes I lie to myself and say "maybe I'm like that, there's going to be a random stroke of genius in my thought, somehow I experienced a bunch of things that lead me to the twisted way that I interpret things today that most people don't "jive" with, but it's also in there with a bunch of douchebaggery and psychedelics!" but really I'm just someone in the slightly to moderately above average intelligence bracket but lazy and would really rather take drugs most of the time.

REEEEEEEEEEEE HE WAS JUST AN ENGINEER, WESTINGHOUSE INTRODUCED A/C TO THE BROADER AMERICAN MARKET AND IT DID CATCH ON, WE USE IT TO THIS DAY FOR ALL MAJOR POWER GRIDS ACROSS THE WORLD YOU STUPID SEXY IDIOT. TESLA DID HELP WESTINGHOUSE WITH A/C ENGINEERING THO.

Basically, Cracked.com sucked Tesla's cock and circle jerked about how Edison was a piece of shit for years, multiple articles featured that. One example from 2007, where the majority of the section about Edison, is about Tesla:

    http://www.cracked.com/article_14870_7-great-men-in-history-and-why-you-should-hate-them.html

Then this faggot made this comic:

    http://theoatmeal.com/comics/tesla

Then other listicle sites started to Teslajerk because it was easy and positive "betcha didn't know!" and it spread like AIDS. Notice how these articles jump to attach Tesla's name to AC current ("we can credit him with it" etc). People ran with that football and now Tesla invented A/C apparently.

In reality, he did contribute greatly to A/C current tenant homology but he didn't invent it, not even close, and he wasn't the one "responsible" for it or its wide scale adoption. A shit load of work on A/C was already being conducted (heh) in Europe, but America was the duelling ground and became the engine for the research.

A brief foray into the literature of Tesla reveal an ingenious inventor years ahead of his time. Born in Serbo-Croatia in the former Yugoslavia, Nikola Tesla settled in the USA where he received citizenship. Today, his work - at least that part which is not hidden under national security wraps - is undergoing a marked, although unofficial revival. He is belatedly credited with the discovery of alternating AC/DC currents, fluorescent lighting, free energy and remote-controlled robots. However, his inquiring mind carried him into far wider realms.

During the late 1890’s, Tesla built a "lightning bolt machine" at Shoreham, Long Island, NY. Funding for the project, dubbed "Wydenclyffe" was provided by banker-entrepreneur, J. P. Morgan.

The construction consisted of an enormous 187 foot high tower, capped by a 55 ton, 68 foot metal dome. Tesla was confident his machine would work as envisaged - following previous experiments in Colorado where he had accidentally destroyed the generating station at Colorado Spring’s Electric Company.

Former US Army Colonel and missile specialist, T. E. Bearden, credits Tesla with the invention of what he calls the "Tesla Howitzer."

This, Bearden maintains was able to transmit electric energy over vast distances wire-lessly. Tesla himself argued that this device could destroy entire armies and thousands of airplanes at a distance of hundreds of miles.14 It is this device, using Scalar waves, that lays at the heart of discussions of an earthquake weapon.

Bearden’s work, however, is generally regarded as being theoretical rather than practical. Non-the-less, Tesla claimed his inventions were not only possible but fairly straight-forward. The fact that many of his more exotic weapons concepts arose at the turn of the last century is, of course, remarkable.

Nor should we loose sight of the fact - which I have repeated because of its significance - that his work papers remain veiled behind US national security classification.

If such weapons do, indeed, exist, and covert testing is taking place - as cited by Archipelago journalists and others tracking this story- then we would expect solid evidence of unusual earthquakes and related events to surface. The Kobe earthquake, though interesting, must be viewed with caution. Aum guru Asahara’s prediction could just as easily be predicated on known geological forecasting.

This rationale, however, does not appear to fit the facts regarding a large number of powerful quakes and other curious energy events that peppered Western Australia over the last few years.
