2018-02-19 at 4:52 AM UTCHas anybody ever considered that the intel services let the shootings happen so they can push the anti-gun control propaganda? Seems like this "FBI ignored warnings" shit gets reported half the time

2018-02-19 at 5:04 AM UTCWhat if part of the reason for this is because America draws more people with extreme personality traits and the effects on reproductive fitness varied considerably relative to other countries?
It’s also likely that the US is a particularly alienated country due to its emphasis on individualism and the inevitable effects of racial diversity, especially in the form of blacks and to a lesser degree Hispanics. There’s been some very good research detailing just how strong an impact it has in a variety of crucial ways. There’s less trust, more fragmentation, leading to more people experiencing an extreme end pushing them past a threshold. Social isolation and psychological alienation has actually been documented to have some of the strongest negative effects over the long term as well as effects that are unique to it, forms of cognitive decline, neurological and endocrine modulation. We’re living in very unnatural states.

2018-02-19 at 5:11 AM UTCI think many people would like to give more of a fuck about life, but can’t due to the underwhelming nature of it, inability to find meaning, and ensuing existential depression.

Except for that one time, and even then you really didn't give a fuck one way or the other, when you unbanned DaGuru's permaban and went against zok's orders when you were a mod. Classic shit right there, folks. Vizier was the ONLY one with enough spine to do that, and he didn't even really give a fuck either. -

This is what people usually tend to mean when they say "mental illness". Not in a "he was diagnosed with some shit" mental illness, but this relatively recent soft mental illness that is accounted for by social conditions that go deeper and are more nuanced than "poverty" that people love to link to crime. -

Would you agree that this has been amplified by the popularisation of atheist-like thinking? Imagine how meaningful life is for those who truly believe in God -

Oh, indeed. There’s a clear strong correlation between religion and happiness.
I suppose you could always give non-mystical Buddhism a try.
