Imagine being a baby boomer

Imagine coming of age in the 1970s.

You can get a job any time you want. Employers have problems with people leaving jobs without giving notice.

You can choose your job. You aren't expected to spend 10 years in college just to deliver letters. Factory jobs still a thing.

You have dozens of countries that would love to take you in - half of them white countries in Africa.

AIDS not a thing yet, almost all STDs have been cured by antibiotics.

Having kids in your 20s still normal. Kids not supervised 24/7.

Schools still white. No white guilt.

White men walking on the moon. Expect to go into space yourself some day.

No smartphones, internet, or other faggotry.

Can afford to rent or even to buy a house or a flat right in the middle of any major city, even on a working class salary.

Imagine not being able to retire as you slowly lose bodily integrity. Being tired to death of having your labor be exploited for the benefit of others and staring down the prospect of dying at your desk but unable to exit the labor force because your generation was collectively retarded in pretty much every facet of life planning.

    Sounds great huh?

There were countless negative aspects of life in the past relative to now. Romanticizing the past and halving a nostalgia effect are common psychological biases. Life was empty and meaningless, just as it is now.

Dude more than 80% of the wealth in America and Britain is owned by Baby Boomers. They bought houses at 2-3x annual salaries, and those same houses are now worth 10-20x annual salaries.

The 50s were awful in Europe. There had been a war.

It was a good time to be a single man though.

Well we're gonna need a source on that one. While the boomers are probably the wealthiest generation in the US 80% is wayyyy more than any some quick googling turns up. Also remember wealth within an age group distributed along about the same curve as wealth in general, that is to say a few percent points of ultra-wealth skew the average way up while [link=https://dqydj.com/net-worth-by-age-calculator-united-states/]median wealth is around 100k[/link] for boomers which is nowhere near enough to retire on.

"Today, baby boomers and their parents, the Silent Generation, control more than 80% of American household wealth."

Boomers are only half. Oops. My argument is completely discredited.

Do retirees in the US not get money from the government?

Well I was mostly just saying the 80% figure seemed outlandish. The point that discredits your argument is that median wealth is the relevant statistic due to the lopsided intra-generational distribution.

Some but it's generally not considered enough to retire on on its own. It doesn't come anywhere close to the usual '80% income replacement' figure.

My argument was that they had it easy. Just because they spent it all doesn't mean they weren't phenomenally privileged.

Do you think we will get money from the government when we retire?

OK, I can definitely get behind that. But you can see why "they had it easy" would be the impression of what you were saying I got from OP.

I mean SSI is in perpetual crisis it seems like, just looking at the situation it's reasonable to be doubtful. On the other hand my grandparents never expected to collect a cent and I think my grandma's been collecting for like 15 years now. My mom never thought she'd see a cent but she's not too far away and now it seems likely she will. I'm sure as hell not going to count on it being there but I won't be blown away if it's still around by the time I'm 65.
