CHICKEN Scheme is a complex piece of software that's really well designed.
Clang & LLVM are well written, a lot of the stuff in LLVM goes over my head but you can tell it's not kruft and actually needs to be there.
Knockout is both clever and well implemented, ahead of its time IMO despite being pretty much beaten out by google and facebook's UI framework offerings at this point.
I think people would disagree over whether or not Linux would be considered "technically excellent". I think most people would have said it was circa 2.2. The issue these days is that there's so much code in the drivers and so many different initiatives that pushed code into the kernel that it's now like 5 times the size it was back then. It's still an engineering marvel but there's also a lot of duct tape and bailing wire in there.
