Why I hate banks and the government
-
2018-02-02 at 6:59 PM UTCWhen you work they take like $50 off each check to pay for unemployment which you get when you lose your job so you can look for another job and pay your rent.
I applied in November and I'm just starting to see the money now. They sent me 9 checks in the mail so I went to the bank today to cash them and my bank says "we can't even cash these, they are from another bank and dated months ago"
I basically had to threaten to close my account and stop doing business with them to get them to do it. I said "what kind of a bank can't even cash a check, what if I was running a small business? This is bullshit, etc"
They were gonna give me a few hundred dollars and hold the rest or they said I could go to another bank and do it but eventually I convinced the guy to just give me the 9 checks in cash.
The whole ordeal took all day, I left at 7am and I'm still not done, I have to go do more government bullshit and get paperwork.
Someone should make a check cashing place that gives you straight litecoin for a check, I have lost all faith in the system today. -

I didn't know Canada did that. That's fucked up. What if you are never unemployed? Can't you opt out? -
2018-02-02 at 7:04 PM UTCI've had that bank account since I was 13 and used it for every job I ever had.

Nope, if you have your job for like 30 years and retire I think they just dump it into old age pension -

Its hard to look for work when you can't even pay for a phone, new clothes, work boots or transit. And I did have a job which is why I am getting money now. I have been working since I was 15 so don't tell me about getting a job, I've probably worked more than anyone here. -
2018-02-05 at 10:17 PM UTCI collected UI for years when Obamha was in charge. I got extension after extension. Good times.
Its like shoplifting, everyone pays for it unless you shoplift. -

When you're poor you really start to realise how much of the system is built up around keeping you poor.
This is pretty good, it's about a University Professor who can't find a job - because he's poor.

Gordon campus dorms open in August, so Barley pitched a tent in some bushes on campus and prepared to spend the next few weeks there.
He had spent the day job-searching Saturday and returned to his tent when officers investigated to a report of someone sleeping in a tent on campus. They told Barley to come out with his hands up, but the officers quickly realized Barley was no danger. They listened to his story.
The biology major, who dreams of going to medical school one day, told the officers he thought the bushes on campus would be a much safer place for him to sleep than staying in his tent in Conyers……People donated clothes, school supplies, shoes, a new bike and they are working to get him a car. A GoFundMe page has raised nearly $9,000 in two days….
