Working offshore

  1. #1
Anybody know someone that has worked offshore like on a platform for drilling or production?

Sounds like they commonly will work schedules like 14 days on/14 days off or 21 on 21 off etc. That is actually really appealing to me because I like to grind hard and then chill out for a while.

Lots of these job listings around the state's are in the Gulf but say they require a year or two offshore experience. Trump has paved the way for the leasing of some new offshore oilfields in the near future so maybe this would be my best bet to getting in?

I don't care about being at sea during Christmas or anything like that but I don't know if the pay would get good enough. I would like to get at least 150k /yr gross, fully paid health/dental/vision, a phat 410k plan and a paid flight to and from a major airport like SFO, DEN, Chicago, etc for each rotation.

Is it possible to volunteer to do it for free

If so do that and then it will lead you on to the next path

I heard it's hard to get into, but once you are in you're sorted. Usually you need to know someone, or keep applying and bothering managers till they give you a shot.

I currently work 3 days per week. 13-hour days. Every few weeks I get 8 days off in a row. It’s pretty sweet.

Also I make about 120k per year, have full medical/dental/vision benefits, and a 401(a) plan. Sometimes we get a bonus at the end of the year

    Interesting, what type of work?

It’s in the energy sector, much like oil drilling. On shore though, and indoors

A sailor on a Navy ship had been out to sea for weeks, and was beginning to go through sex withdrawals. Fed up with the lack of sex, he asked one of his shipmates what he did when the pressure was too much to take.

"Well, there's a barrel with a hole in it near the mop storage. When it gets to be too much for us, we use that."

So the sailor went over to the barrel and decided to give it a go. Finding it was better than he'd expected, he began using it regularly, and his problems seemed to vanish.

After a couple of weeks, his commanding officer began to take notice, and said, "You seem to be a lot more relaxed. What's your secret?"

The sailor, embarrassed to give a straight answer, simply said he'd been getting better rest.

"Well good, sailor. You're going to need it," replied the officer. "Today's your turn in the barrel."
