You should get a trading account on bittrex or something to learn about the market. In general the price is supported by people putting in orders to buy at a cheaper price than current. For instance Bitcoin right now is bouncing off $10,000, and that's because lots of people have orders in to buy at $10,000.
In the same manner people also have orders in to sell when the price reaches a certain point. Then you have day traders who look at graphs and try to make money off small swings in the price, bots running through APIs and trading using some neckbeards algorithm, and people who come running into the market when it's down to profit from the rebound.
This is called making the market or providing market liquidity, and it's actually a legitimate form of earning money.
EDIT: I'm so tired of seeing ICO scam advertisements. -

I don't see what makes crypto a better vehicle than a stock for playing around with other than its mysterious and new and a lot of people got accidentally rich when bitcoin came of age. I was actually just trying to illustrate to §m£ÂgØL that I think cryptos could crash in price just like stocks.
The problem is that stocks and even commodities are so taxed and regulated and fees are so high that it's hard for the little guy to invest in individual shares.
That's why foreign exchange/forex is so popular, as you can't really stop people buying and selling currencies the same way you can with normal investments.
I definitely thing coins in general will continue to be a thing simply because it allows people like me cheap and easy access to the market to invest/gamble in as we wish.ICO scams? the credit card spam stuff? It's somewhat annoying but I actually enjoy it because it lets Lil Sporty do some moderation and feel like he made a difference today without fucking with legitimate posters.
I mean on youtube. -

The people that run the network fucked up, they didn't scale properly because they had no vision as to what crypto could be. It's just a mainstream pump and dump now -

2018-01-31 at 9:14 PM UTCXRP is at 1.14 down from 3+ last month, but it was under .30 just two months ago. It will only crash if people lose interest since that is the solitary thing backing cryptocurrency. A great example of this is dogecoin, which shot up when released and then was quickly forgotten about because it's just a memecoin. XRP however is still high up in the market cap ranking (#3) so you know interest is still high.

There is also a dip at this same time every year. There's a reason for the whole hodl meme Lanny. As long as interest in crypto still exists, prices will continue to rise. There is nothing to crash like with the stock market.
Finally, a prediction. So just to confirm, if we reach the end of the year without XRP reaching last year's high will you admit your prediction was wrong? -
