A bottled in bond whiskey like that is about as true a whiskey as you can get, it's made with a process that's been around since prohibition to deter bootleggers. And Evan Williams was one of the first producers of whiskey.
If you really want to act like scotch snobs they spell it "whisky" and not "whiskey", same with the Canadians.

Whiskey is not some fancy top shelf shit brah. Bourbon in particular is one of the cheapest most common types of alcohol in the us since like a hundred years ago. There’s some nice stuff out there, sure, but saying Evan Williams isn’t whiskey is like saying bud isn’t beer.
