Ever notice how...

When you're looking at an animation(This just happened with mQ's avatar for me) directly, as in, focusing on it. It runs at normal speed. BUT when you look at it from the corner of your eye it runs at approximately double speed?

Ever notice this? Maybe it doesn't happen for you, maybe i have brain cancer but i mean, who knows?

Animal vision is highly movement based. I don't notice any acceleration in speed when looking at animation out of the side of my eyes, but maybe it's due to change in perception due to your focus on a fixed point.

For some reason it doesn't work on the gif Vizier posted but it did happen on mQ's avatar. I can't help but draw a comparison with time. When you focus on it, it goes slowly but when you don't it seems to fly by. Probably a coincidence.

It makes sense that the perceived movement speed for something you were focused on would seem considerably slower. There's a clear survival advantage. IIRC they found that psychedelics affect a part of your brain specifically involved in the perception of time, so there's bound to be a neurological basis for things like this, which should go without saying.
