A bad ideas way to get free lead pellets is go to a shotgun shooting range because each time they go off is usually an ounce of small lead shot which accumulates in the soil quickly. They actually get paid by companies who come and screed it out of the soil to recycle it.
Just make sure you wear a blaze orange hunters shirt so some gungho guy doesnt go all self defense on you while your shoveling their soil.
but actually from what I have read a few feet of earth is equivalent to several inches of lead shielding in most ways. So you probably don't really need lead if you design it right
