Anyone want a steam code for The Long Dark or Warhammer 4K: Dawn of War 3

Humble bundle thing, I already own the long dark and aren't interested in the warhammer franchise. I'll PM codes to whoever wants them.

Also I'll recommend the long dark. Fun if you're into punishing minimal-combat survival games. Can be pretty frustrating but if you go into it with the right mindset even getting eaten by wolves can be a pretty cool experience.

I'll take DOW3, not heard good things about it but willing to give it a try

I've got a bunch of gift items as well, Age of Mythology, Void Expanse, KF1, Borderlands 1 and a bunch of other stuff

Also have keys for the new Tomb Raider (don't care enough to try it) and Sleeping Dogs (I've played it and it's one of my favorite gta-like games of all time, I highly recommend it)

I don't have any keys but I'd be down to play some KF1. I already own it, great game. Can't run KF2, though from what I've read I'm not missing out on much.

Sweet, I'm lrogers54 (the static name thing) with "Made In Tarth" as my "sceen name" or whatever the one you can change is called, hit me up.

Also I have mixed feelings about KF2. There are a lot of improvements of KF1 but the skill ramp seems fucked. Honestly my position is that it doesn't exist: success on top difficulty is like 20% luck and 80% teamwork, individual skill counts for something but not a lot vs. KF1 you could carry on any difficulty if you were enough of a motherfucker. After getting reasonably good at KF1 that kinda irks me because I mostly play matchmaking and it's basically a lottery of getting a good team or not, although usually it's not since you might get one other player that knows how to play and four that don't. On the other hand, it does make perk variety better (you no longer need one of like two or three team compositions to function) and it encourages teamwork (no one runs off and saves themselves if they think that can finish the round alone because no one can as a result of the games mechanics) so on the whole matchmaking is a lot less toxic. But yeah, at the end of the day I kinda liked the old team mechanics, maybe I was just one of the toxic assholes, but it was more fun for me when there was more individual influence in outcomes.

I typically play up to suicidal, haven't done much HoE so I can't say in that regard, but I figure it largely depends on class and individual players. Some of the classes (*cough* firebug, support) have a retardedly low skill-ceiling and/or are just all around fairly worthless. I love SWAT but can't really come up with a reason to play it over commando.

The real problem I have is with most of the players - very few seem to play it as a team game and more or less just rush off to try and get to to the top of the kill list, which is just annoying in hard but actively fucks the team beyond that... especially if you end up on a team with 4-5x sharpshooters or something like that

As for individual skill it does make a difference if the team sticks together and doesn't do retarded shit, but I think it's good that it's a lot harder to 'carry' a team now - zeds and bosses seem to have been redesigned in such a way that you need a variety of perks to get the job done

Yeah, SWAT was a weird addition. I still don't really get what they were going for from a game design perspective.

Support has a low skill ceiling but it also has a high floor. Basically you learn how to do a popshot and the timings for RoF, reloads, and stumbles and you're done. It obsolesces SWAT, and commando because it can solo heavies and trashsweep while the other two classes have to pick one, by max level ammo constraints are pretty much a non-issue.

Yeah, playing for kill counts is frustrating. Usually once you get far enough in people will realize not to be such assholes but the first 4~6 levels is people being wankers. And that's kind of my argument for KF1 style balance: you should have some degree of survivability if your team is retarded and gets themselves killed so other people doing badly isn't an absolute death sentence for you or a minority group of players.

As for individual skill it does make a difference if the team sticks together and doesn't do retarded shit, but I think it's good that it's a lot harder to 'carry' a team now - zeds and bosses seem to have been redesigned in such a way that you need a variety of perks to get the job done

I do think the boss design is much improved. The boss fights in KF1 where you basically had to die if you drew the short straw as a DPS perk and did the most damage to the boss were frustrating. But for normal play I feel like low-skill perks that are biased towards quick, inaccurate, hipfire strategies are unreasonably advantaged over higher-skill accuracy or timing based perks.
