Studies have shown that the gut microbiome is important in determining your weight.

Fecal Matter Transplants caused weight loss and gain in patients

It's far from guaranteed, but FMT looks like it should be considered as a possible cure for people who can't lose weight, especially combined with a more healthy diet.

That's both true, and actually harmful advice.

Successful weight loss must involve manipulating the endocrine (hormone) system, for instance by restoring insulin sensitivity, or by eating foods that produce a feeling of satiety (like leafy greens).

Balance energy intake with energy use

There's no diet or plan that'll get everyone the same results - if you want to gain weight, consume more and burn less. If you want to lose it, burn more and consume less.

Since your body stores fat for when food is unavailable, how long would it take for a fat person to starve to death?

Say you gave a person adequate water and vitamins and minerals. Then lock them in a room until they are thin. Obviously not perfect, but how effective would this be?

There are about 7000calories per kilo of fat, and each kilo can give out only about 300 calories per day (though it's really more complicated. ( http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15615615 ). A fat sedentary person will burn around 2000 calories per day, therefore you can lose about 2 kilos a week by not eating.

Fasting of this type has been successfully done, but compliance is an obvious issue. What is referred to as protein sparing modified fasting (PSMF) is recommended so you don't lose too much muscle mass. Also exercise and supplementation is especially important when fasting in order to spare as much muscle as possible.

That could be a great business model. Open a facility with a bunch of cozy rooms stocked with everything but food, then charge people massive amounts of money to come be locked in until they lose the weight. Supply them with water and proper supplements, and keep a team of 'doctors' on hand just in case. Have clients sign a shitload of liability waivers, and bingo. You're being paid to watch fat people starve themselves skinny.

No. It would be marketed as "natural fat reduction". I can see the infomercial now.

Yes, I have thought about this before. It's the fascist route to fitness. I would even think about signing up myself. All you need to do is provide internet.

I'm kind of shocked nothing like this exists yet. Obviously it wouldn't work in the west, because muh consent, but somewhere else, sure thing.

From experience being fat is like being alcoholic, it's made worse by the way that food and food advertising is everywhere. After a while of living on a very restricted diet you don't even feel that hungry anymore, your hunger is redirected into productive energy and you feel clear and shiny. It's due to your hormones returning to normal.

All morbidly obese people have relatives or significant others who act as their "feeders".

I think this sort of fascist fat camp might even get customers paid for via government support.

When I took Prozac I lost like 40 lbs in a few months. I was just suddenly not hungry anymore and seemed to apparently metabolise fat much quicker, apparently. I wasn't complaining, it was just fucking weird. Plus I had way more energy.

i've lost 2 stone now in just over 2 months by cutting out sugar completely and most days all i'd eat was a bowl of cornflakes for breakfast and then either a chicken or king prawn stir-fry for a meal in the evening. some days i would have one ham sandwich as well, but most days would just get by on the cornflakes and stir-fry. plus 2 to 3 hours a day in the gym. it really wasn't that hard, just a case of exercising self-control is all.

Were you bouncing back from depression or something? Most people report weight gain on SSRIs.

I mean YEAH, I was taking it because I was severely depressed. It worked wonders, and I lost weight without trying. It was peculiar but great.
