2016-01-25 at 3 PM UTCWhy are you guys actlng like something is going to happen to niggasinspace?
So many people pissed and moaned that all the other forums were way too restrictive, and now you finally have one where the sysop leaves us alone, and you created a new one. -
2016-01-25 at 3:55 PM UTCOP, what makes your place different than this place? Except that it's completely devoid of any content at this moment.

True, but I remember totse as a place where outright spam was deleted and the spammers banned. It helped keep the signal to noise ratio a bit sane.
I've been bouncing around ideas for a community recently because part of me thinks that &t was the best it could've have been, but another part thinks that &t is passed and an &t clone won't work in these times anymore. Late 90's/early 00's was a time for internet forums, but is it time they were replaced by some newer way of creating and sustaining a community? The &t I know itself replaced a BBS with a forum, so maybe there's something new to try? I'm really attached to this form of being part of a community, but what if there's something better?

Honestly guys you just have to admit it's over. It's getting embarrassing at this point. That forum was dead before Jeff Hunter even pulled the plug in 2009. The reason was because it didn't have any potential even by 2006. By 2007 most if not all of the content producing members left. Even Radio Free Amerika and Technofiliacs was falling apart by that point.
The userbase simply doesn't exist anymore, nor do the technological hurdles that would vet a culture of readers. Nowadays everybody and their grandmother is online, so until there's new technology we're basically fucked.
Everybody here acts like they want old totse, but I don't they realize many of the members here and on other totse clone wouldn't be welcomed in the new forum they're begging for. Obviously you (LiquidIce) would, since you're one of the better content producing peole here, but everytime something begins to look like it has potential to fill the void the userbase destroys it. They complained IntoSanctuary was too regulated, they complain NiggasinSpace isn't regulated enough, they claim intosanctuary didn't have enough content, then as soon as we started to produce some they doxed the owner. Remeber Zoklet? We were just about to put in a Zoklet Library, I was collecting text, tons of people were contributing, ParkerBrother was building an interface, and then someone doxed Zok. We can say what we want about RDFRN, but the admin was dedicated to recreating something in the spirit of Totse, it was picking up traction, people were beginning to produce a lot of content, and someone fucking doxed the owner because .... no reason I guess. The guy who did it said he better close the site or he was going to release information about his wife and kids everywhere.
The admin closed the site, and the userbase fucking cried and complained that he was some kind of "pussy" for refusing to jeopardize his wife and kid's well being. Granted being doxed isn't the end of the world for some people (like lanny), but you seem to forget that Zok lost his job over that shit (all it took was one phone call). If it was my wife and my kids I would have done the exact same thing that the owner of RDFRN did.
I don't even like calling it "doxing" because that's kind of a pretentious name for basically being a fucking creep and googling people's information based on the little you know about them with a little technical know-how here and there. It doesn't really take much to do. I'm not going to say I'm impregnable, but none of you guys really know anything about me besides my voice and what I (kind of) look like (which I'm assuming was recorded or photographed), but even that isn't enough to go on because I move so frequently.
Anyway, I guess my point is that you would need to have a firm guiding hand of moderation in the beginning because Sploo's constant posts about his IQ and his "experiments," Iron John flooding every forum with jedi conspiracy (including oral indulgences), people spamming child porn and child erotica, posting up garbage, illegible posts, and all the other stuff people here claim they don't want but cry when it's moderated is the reason it never grows.
Honestly of all the Totse clones this one is the least moderated, and I think that's why it will continue to be successful. I'm thankful lanny made it because it's entertaining.
I know this is long as fuck but If you ask me..
There is one thing you could do to recreate something a little like what you're looking for that would most likely be successful. I'm thinking about doing it and opening it for discussion later. I have to go to class and get fucked by Calculus for a few hours.

2016-01-25 at 5:13 PM UTCIn all instances, certain deluded individuals with big egos started to think they were too big for their britches, and they started to imagine they could regulate, herd, censor and micromanage free speech. They started to imagine that, just because they owned a domain name and a few megs of hard drive space, that they owned the community and all of its content, and they imagined they could do whatever they wanted with it. But you see, it was all just in their imaginations. A call was made to contributors to wake up, but the call was ignored, ridiculed, oppressed, deleted, moved, what-have-you, and apathy ruled the day. And so the only option left was to put the bedtime story to bed - to demonstrate for the ego-driven dreamers just how powerful free speech and unmolested freedom of expression really is. No britches are too big for freedom of speech, and that's something the dreamers had to learn the hard way, and they did. Should we feel bad? Not at all. Did we lose good content? Sure. Did we lose good contributors? Sure. Did we lose power-hungry, ego-driven, censuring, content-abusing clowns and their enablers? Yes, we did. Did it have to happen? Yes, it did.

I agree. It's time we put it rest. If we want to get together and start something else that's fine, but trying to recreate totse isn't going to happen. -

This is not Spectral's intention in his post.
I completely get that spectral has crazy reasons, but his conclusion is still correct.
Namely, it's over. Let's move on. It's cool to have niggasinspace and do what we do, but having a billion sister sites altogether floating around originating from the same community with ostensibly the same goal makes the original totse look like a bunch of whiney bitches who never grew up.
Knoweldge and freedom are cool, but just go on like one of the chans or something. -

Right, honestly though when it comes to the users i prefer people here over the people from the chans. Even though chronophilia is more widely accepted at 8chan and certainly masterchan. I just like our people better. -

I agree that it was in decline through that time. Times changed but totse didn't change. It still lured people like me in with it's 90's-tasting promises of knowledge and freedom. It's stupid, but it's really hard to come to terms with "the userbase simply doesn't exist". I mean, shit, yeah, everyone's on facebook or instagram posting pictures of their breakfast and it feels like everything good has died, but is that just a feeling? Is it real? Maybe this noise is drowning out all the signal, I mean, people don't stop craving knowledge and freedom in a 15 year span "just because". So did this need just disappear? Or is there too much noise? At this point I don't know what to believe, but I want to believe that it's the noise and that there are still people out there who live out these "totsean" ideals because, egoistically, I want to connect with these people.
The userbase simply doesn't exist anymore, nor do the technological hurdles that would vet a culture of readers. True, they'd be banned before they got out of the mud farm.Anyway, I guess my point is that you would need to have a firm guiding hand of moderation in the beginning because Sploo's constant posts about his IQ and his "experiments," Iron John flooding every forum with jedi conspiracy (including oral indulgences), people spamming child porn and child erotica, posting up garbage, illegible posts, and all the other stuff people here claim they don't want but cry when it's moderated is the reason it never grows.
I don't know how to approach this problem (moderation in moderation, excuse the pun) so if you ever wanna write about it, I'll definitely read it. How to combine freedom and the "garbage, illegible posts"? As soon as you cross the line and banhammer the spammer, you get outcries about censorship. I know that if you got a culture going then these things would sort themselves out. I've been trying to post things here that I'd like to see more often, but it's too early to tell if this works at all.
Honestly of all the Totse clones this one is the least moderated, and I think that's why it will continue to be successful. I'm thankful lanny made it because it's entertaining.

The chans don't provide a place for discussion. I like that threads here are open for days at a time, giving me time to mull over all that is being said or time to plan some new topics.
