    The following users say it would be alright if the author of this post didn't die in a fire!

    The cross is used an identifier and reminder. Literally no one worships it.

    If you want to make the case that worshiping Christ in and of itself is idol worship, then okay...? That doesn't really make sense. Christ is God, so the commandment "have no other Gods before me" wouldn't be broken anyway.

    Catholics are christian though. Yes, there are non-catholic denominations but the fact that Catholics, a subtype of christians, venerate relics (and assuming we accept veneration as idolatry) then it's false to claim that christians as a category don't worship idols.

    Earlier this morning I was pondering which religion was "real" as I was watching this "demon magician" shit on youtube. If you were to believe one particular video supposedly destroying the Quran and disrespecting it gives you evil magical powers. It's not that I despise Muslims or anything but as a white American in rural hick country I'd feel infinitely more comfortable shitting on that book than the Holy Bible. I'm not even necessarily a believer in anything it just seems I feel like I wouldn't have much trouble destroying a Quran like I feel it's fake and all those people are insane anyways. I guess some silly video really put things in perspective for me.

    Christian =/= Catholic.

    Literally all sorts of people worship it. Many might not think about it consciously, or differently (ignorantly, conveniently), but the small letter t is absolutely an idol and absolutely spits in the face of God's 2nd commandment.

    Not really. Catholicism is a religion, whereas Christianity is simply the following of Christ and his teachings (the Bible). Unlike Catholicism and other religions, Christianity doesn't have a hierarchical structure, require you do a laundry list of things to get into heaven, etc. The two are very different.

    Again, incorrect. People worship God and what he did on the cross, not the cross itself. No one prays to the cross. It is an identifier and reminder.

    Ok, so you have some special snowflake definition of the word christianity that means something no one else uses it to mean. Good job on that one I guess? It's not super productive to use in conversation since no one else uses the term like that. For those of us that speak regular English, the statement "christians don't worship idols" is false, and if you really were committed to this semantic argument then you'd admit that is the case.

    No, it's not special. Anyone can read the Bible and verify it. Jesus didn't preach religion, in fact he was rather against it. Simply because people misunderstand something doesn't mean it's incorrect.

    Catholics who worship relics do indeed worship idols, you are correct. Such a thing is forbidden to Christians, however, and as far as I have ever seen, Christians do not worship the cross.
  14. Dargo said the widely accepted difference between Christian and all the denominations within it lol. You have a flaky understanding of Christianity, Lanny. Do you even Protestant/Calvinist?

  15. Leave it to NiS for a thread about white trash squalor to turn into a discussion about religion.
  16. Oh, we can talk about squalor.
  17. Yeah, let's talk squalor.

    §m£ÂgØL, how was her house not condemned/foreclosed? At some point it becomes a health hazard to the county and they're allowed to step in.
  18. Nobody went inside, I imagine. There was some social worker who came in at one point and there was trash everywhere and holes in the floor, walls deteriorating, dog shit everywhere. Not even running water at that time. But the social worker let it all slide. It was definitely unlivable. When her house was bought from her grandmother by a neighbor (lol) he only charged her $200 in rent. No papers of course. If there were papers he'd be liable.
  19. lol $200? For a soggy maggot infested cardboard box with no utilities? Guess it serves her right since she's the one that ruined the place.
  20. Eventually she paid for a well to get dug and had running water again, but yeah. There was however, no gas. All cooking was done either on a rusted camping grill, a crockpot, or in the microwave. Also it was placed on the front porch so all the neighbors could see you cooking. That's why the grill was so rusted, because all the rain would spittle onto it. You don't appreciate an actual kitchen until you don't have one. When I first came back, even clean non-ripped towels seemed like a luxury.
