One thing that is very fucked up about the American pharmaceutical industry
-
2017-10-30 at 5:16 AM UTCA pharmacist can legally deny you access to drugs based on their own personal beliefs. This means stuff like narcotics or birth control, even when they're in stock. Maybe it's on a case by case basis. Like, they'll give birth control to the mom with 3 kids, but not the promiscuous 16 year old. They'll give a 60 year old man opiates for his sciatic nerve, but not a 20 year old with the same thing.
Shouldn't it be the DOCTOR'S job to decide who gets what or not? That's how the current system seems to be set up. This problem gets way more serious when you consider stuff like people getting denied narcan because they look like junkies. There is a legit belief out there where people believe junkies will purposely overdose because they know they'll just be saved.
People like this should not be in the field of medicine just like judges who don't want to perform gay marriage ceremonies shouldn't be judges. -

Not sure if it's the same in the US, but here the doctor does make that decision if you go to a doctor - the pharmacist only uses their discretion if you ask for 'semi-controlled' drugs without a prescription; things like codeine or pseudoephedrine (both of which were recently made even harder to get) -

You need a prescription for birth control here. Pharmacists do have discretion for the true otc things like psuedoephedrine, but they can also stop you from getting your doctor prescribed drugs. -

ahahhaha what? even after a qualified doctor has given you a prescription; a note that in their educated opinion, you should have that drug? that's fucking hilarious -
2017-10-31 at 10:48 AM UTCYeah, I've heard of young people having lots of trouble getting things like fent even if it was prescribed, because they "don't look like they need it"

When I was 15/16 I got prescribed hydrocodone and when I went to pick it up they refused to give it to me unless my mom was present. Just the one older lady though. Had gotten it from others at that same pharmacy.
