I thought of 2 videos (one a 8mm Koda) and they showed up. one on a DVD from 1979-80 (determining the year was difficult)
and a 8mm of me wrestling some kid in 7th grade (maybe 8th)
someone put showed it on a BBS site but then pulled it before I could try and desktop record it onto video.
How does one know such things? and were can I find the 6th grade (or 7th) Mark and Peetee video from the school councler. I know he has a copy of it. Reel to Reel video setup from the 1960s. He worked for PBS and bought it. -

Betmax by Sony (and toshiba) was superior to VHS tapes. Its quality was even better than Super VHS used in studios.
But they were only 45-60 minutes long. VHS was chosen do to the film industry renting (and selling) out films in the late 1970s-1990s. because the high grade video was 120 and you could videotape lower quality up to 6 hours (like a home security camera).
The Beta tapes were doubleline scanned or low progressive scan (full frame rather than interlaced) which could be rendered out to 720p and look good
Believe it or not. Japan had invented 1080p video in the late 1960s. Which was used for video conferences over a T-3 like base phone line. over the air during the analog period was nearly impossible. it couldn't be broadcast because the technology wasn't available to get full high resolution.
Betamax video wouldn't suffer from degradation as fast as VHS.
Beta was reel to reel studio quality. Generally had 2 flying heads rather than a single situated head (like the first VHS)
they taught us this shit during A/V classes.
VHS only existed because of the movie rental business. So don't bitch when you see shitty video you wish could of looked better when converting over to digital format. it existed in the early years. going back to the early 60s. -

Anyways, I digress. Sony's Betamax width was 9mm I believe. while VHS was like 23mm? The volume of material in tape was about the same, but beta's cassett width and vertical legth with was about the same. yet VHS stretched the material to be thinner. making the casett width very narrow and from it being 2.5 times wider and half the thickness, it tended to crinkle more and jam up. All because the film industry could not figure out how to make a consumer standard beta tape to be the standard for home video market and rentals.
America is about being in first and making the dollar fast to move on. Japanese and other nations are ahead of us yet are willing to hold off a bit to make a better standard market. even if it was first developed in the USA. the privateers will shed as much quality to make maximum dollars. which helps out Americans in no way.
