Oz and pretty much every other political entity with historical US relations and primary domain in the pacific. Saipan managed to abuse its imported workforce enough that it became a minor human rights issue a couple years ago and got their chain yanked, losing the compact privileges than made that speck of land economically viable and have been desperately trying to get China to feed them to make up for it. The FSM is following suit because it's a good year when more than half of their legislator has a high school equivalent education. The former american pacific territories are a fucking mess right now. -

There are a bunch of groups of pacific islands the US "acquired" during WWII or shortly after and correspondingly a whole hodgepodge of diplomatic relations ranging from "unrepresented taxation" to "puppet state" to "blundering morons who will be reenacted at the point it becomes advantageous" as we lost any real reason to be in the pacific beyond Hawaii. Saipan is somewhere in the middle of that range. They mean next to nothing in geopolitics but it's kind of interesting to see these island nations and pseudo-nations losing faith in American beneficiary after nearly half a century of economies sustained by American support in one way or another. It seems like almost everyone in the pacific is in the same situation: tightrope between the China and the US where neither really wants them but doesn't want the other side to have them either -
