Answer: to spite one or two good-spirited members that posted too many funny GIFs....
It is puzzling to me that several malicious users can publish the private information of other members and it is just business as usual, but we get a couple wise guys literally having some good clean fun and it is just such a travesty that we have to (foolishly attempt to) show them an IRON FIST and make sure they can't blow off steam until we say so.
These bans are FUCKING STUPID And it is a crying-damn-shame that enforcement is attempted by the easiest and most thoughtless means necessary: boarding up the front door of membership.
Got something against alt accounts? Well take a guess why so many exist.. When you make new accounts a scarcity then you get people scooping them up for no reason other than they don't want to lose that option in the future.
Lets wise up and accept reality - certain people will post here if they want to post here.

It's an easy substitute for poor BBS member management. I've been arguing these kinds of things for over a decade. I call them "bandaid solutions", and those kind of quick fixes never, ever work, and they actually do way more harm than good. This has been definitively proven time and time again to be true, as well. It's not like people don't know it doesn't work, it's just that they obstinately refuse to try anything else. They are either too liberal, too lazy, or just plain don't give a flying fuck about the state of the BBS. Not much anyone can do but either live with it, or take the site down entirely.
