Active shooter at Mandalay Bay Casino in Las Vegas

    Technically not true.

I was watching this last night on the News..got rather annoyed with the constant repetitive rhetoric with no actual news and decided to look shit up on reddit. Strange how reddit had actual info and the News crews seemed completely ignorant and fine just giving us a tour of Las Vegas rather than letting us know what the fuck was going on. They'd play videos they took off social media, but without sound then speculate endlessly instead of just using their fucking heads.

i really dont see how decent people with assault/military styled weapons could really have prevented 50+ deaths in this case.

if anything it could be a lot worst as confused descent people started shooting in any and every direction the echos are coming in from thinking that there are multiple shooters.

Besides, criminals by definition don't follow the law and will definitely still be able to get guns, especially those planning to do a mass shooting like this. I'd rather decent people be able to have guns too in case something bad happens, instead of only the "bad guys" having them and everyone else being defenseless.

You're right, America is a very different country to the UK and Australia where it worked. Shotguns, handguns or whatever for your home and personal defence ok, and I see why people want rifles because I bet they're hella fun to shoot, but restrict them to people in gun clubs and they can only keep like one mag of ammo at home, rest at the range. But idk, it's pretty fucked it happens so regularly. I guess there's not much you can do.

The knives and terrorists don't bother or scare me at all, it's the fuckers running round chucking acid in peoples faces that terrify me. But even then unless you're in a gang in one of the cities or have really bad luck to be in the wrong place, wrong time for terrorists, you're "fairly" safe.

And you can commit crimes knowing that a cop isn't going to turn up with a gun pointed at you and a slippery trigger finger. That's always nice

Lol yeah, that would fucking suck

The problem with American cops (from what I've heard) is that they're trained to treat everyone as if they're going to kill them until proven otherwise. That and the fact that they're basically above the law makes for a nasty combination and attracts the wrong kind of people to the job

This is true too though, I'd probably be fine without a gun. My paranoia is probably a holdover from my homeless tweaker days and hopefully will go away eventually

  6. If the guy used a couple of explosives, this rampage would have been legendary, would probably have gotten 100+ easy, and hundreds more injured.

User was banned for saying the taboo phrase "explosive"!

Whereas the most our police are armed with is 4% pepper spray and a stern look. They're excellent at talking people down so they don't need to be violent, you'd love the cops here, good fun, you can actually have a laugh with them. Guess it's because of the whole "Policing by consent" shit.

If you really had a hard on for guns tho you can still get them here, both legally and illegally. It's not difficult getting a firearms license

    This is why:

If he'd shot the guy with the gun instead of saying "put the gun down", he'd still be alive and I wouldn't have to be sitting here listening to his blood curdling screams of death. This is why if you fuck up during a traffic stop you're liable to get ventilated. They show this shit in training, I've heard. They may not expect every situation to play out like this, but understandably they don't want to take that kind of risk. Neither would anyone.

Treat every interaction with police as a life or death situation. There's a solid chance they are.

Call me crazy but the officer could've done any number of things to de-escalate or take control of the situation other than constantly yelling at him. No hand to hand training to take out what looks like a 70 year old man while he's dancing in the street? No Tazer? This is an awful argument for how trigger happy cops are, but a fucking fantastic one for how incompetent they are. Cop was shitting himself over this long before the gun came into play.

Police officers' everyday job is to walk up to random strangers and pose them with the potential to lose their freedom, possibly for years. They don't really have the option to give them a hug and a blowjob on every interaction.

Dumb cop should have opened up on him the second he saw the rifle. Can't fix stupid.

Not at all what I was implying, and such a shit dismissive comment. The cop, in the video HTS showed to try and justify being trigger happy, could have and should have put that man on the pavement the second he was doing the Charleston, if not the second the perp got right up in his face.

20/20 hindsight, but it's pretty clear the cop was trying to avoid violent confrontation of any kind. So now they train cops to use violent confrontation at the slightest risk. This includes guns if tackling the suspect isn't viable.

Making your official argument that Cops don't do their job correctly, so they should get passes to be more aggressive. Got it.
