Yeah, when's the last time they constricted this sorta thing to any considerable extent? A few years ago my state (Beijing Kaoya) implemented concealed carry. -
2017-10-02 at 4:44 PM UTCI have second thoughts about that though.
Everyone knows that the democrat strategy is to slowly encroach on gun freedoms by half measures.
For example, I personally think that there should be a relatively high threshold of safety training required to legally purchase and carry new guns and there should also be a required background check, just for good measure. I don't think either of these hurt law abiding citizens.
Most Americans have similar views to me:
http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2017/06/22/key-takeaways-on-americans-views-of-guns-and-gun-ownership/
This is a pretty convenient advantage for democrats, unfortunately. What the NRA realizes that is never brought up iss, ground lost in thiss discussion is lost forever. It'll start with measures like background checks, and then it'll be the war over the next half step. So they are forced to take a hardline stance on being flatly against any gun restrictions, which makes a lot of Americans think the NRA and other gun freedom advocates are stupid and unnecessarily rigid.
In theory, you could very well use an attack like this as leverage to push that particular political goal. But it's apparent that that's not actually the case. -
2017-10-02 at 4:45 PM UTCHere is what CNN is saying about the shooter so far:
http://www.cnn.com/2017/10/02/us/las-vegas-attack-stephen-paddock-trnd/index.html?sr=fbCNN100217las-vegas-attack-stephen-paddock-trnd0914AMVODtopLink
There's also a link on that page that shows the latest numbers as at least 58 dead and 515 injured. -
2017-10-02 at 4:48 PM UTCHopefully the shooter was some radical leftist, that would make things interesting and is plausible since it's a white dude who shot up a country music festivals where likely everyone is a republican.

2017-10-02 at 4:49 PM UTC515 injured, yeah right
Unless that's from people stampeding each other I highly doubt that's accurate -

I was thinking this might be the case, actually, what with all the rabid hate against Trump and his supporters lately. I mean, I'm against Trump as much as most people, but the circlejerking about how stupid he is and how often people can tie an insult of him into unrelated topics is just annoying. -

Eh. Democrats like country music too. And it was in Las Vegas. Democrat populations are always higher in cities because people in cities tend to be more educated :) Plus people come from all over to go to Vegas. It's one of the biggest tourist destinations in America. -

There are plenty of stupid and uneducated people on both sides of the American political coin. -

Either way it's a bit rude to play with human lives in that fashion. Then again, I'm not of the belief that most of these shootings are set up by rich cloaked men drinking Elk blood.
The follow up reporting can obviously influence how the events are perceived, considering we have literally no way of knowing about any of these things unless we were there, other than second-hand accounts.
As always the growing rate of cell phone cameras helps us see some of these events that we would likely never in our lifetime be a part of, and with so many personalities, and opinions, and emotions, things become a growing clusterfuck; everyone feels like they need to have their own reason for why such and such happened, but the reality is the reason is so often glaring and obvious that people can't accept it, like switching answered on a gameshow because the one you picked seems too obvious.
All the while, the obvious answer was the correct answer, and I believe in most of these shootings or bombings or what have you, the reason is nature, determinism. By all rights it seems pretty evident that with our population and human history there are always going to be a few folks around that want to kill a bunch of other people, and some of them will absolutely do it.
This shooting despite it being sad for so many, well I like the idea of it, the guy up in the window- peering down, looking through his scope and perusing the crowd. Like something from a movie, but I'd still rather do something more up close and lethal Columbine-esque. -

Well here's another source with more information. Reuters is reliable as far as I know, and they're also saying over 500 injured.

2017-10-02 at 5:13 PM UTCReally tho the fact people keep repeatedly dying from mass shootings and you still don't restrict gun sales or bullets is insane. Yea you might think you have the right to bear arms, but people have more of a right to not be shot.

Meh
People get stabbed and run over by terrorists everyday in the UK but you guys wouldn't make knives or cars illegal
I'd rather be shot to death than stabbed or run over
Also, if they'd put all the gangsters away for shootings instead of locking them up for three months and then letting them go this would be much less of a problem
I do think you should have to get a permit for a handgun or semi auto (but those permits would have to be "shall issue" rather than "may issue") and every gun sale should have to go through a dealer

America is flooded with guns much more than people, and no amount of legislation will get rid of those or stop more from coming in. Besides, criminals by definition don't follow the law and will definitely still be able to get guns, especially those planning to do a mass shooting like this. I'd rather decent people be able to have guns too in case something bad happens, instead of only the "bad guys" having them and everyone else being defenseless. -

Do you think it would make much difference to a country that already has at least 300 million guns already owned or in circulation legally or illegally? We have more guns than we do people, already. -

This too. It's decades too late to get every gun off the streets in the US -

thanks, i like news as much as you do but isnt this worst ????
i mean even before anything .... reuters are speculating left and right about what his lifes like, what he likes to do or where to gamble, and condemning him as the shooter and saying that he shot himself as a fact.
and not to mention more PI.
