Replaced turn signal lever now high beams wont activate

2017-08-28 at 5:45 AM UTCI added cruise control to my vehicle so I replaced the existing turn signal lever with one that has the cruise control switches built in.
The factory 'stalk' controlled turn signals, high beam, and windshield wipers + fluid sprayer. New one has the same functions plus electrical switches for cruise.
The high beam is activated by pulling the lever towards you and letting it spring back, this moves a steel linkage that runs through the steering column to a switch down above the pedals. It still moves the linkage but not far enough to activate the switch. I can reach down and push the switch manually to operate it. The new lever doesn't seem to have any limitation compared to the old one with how far you can swing it so what gives.

If you can reach down an operate the switch just rewire a new switch in better location and forget about the stupid stalk as long as everything else is functional. -

2017-10-18 at 8:58 PM UTCI guess I could, drives me nuts though because the whole reason I replaced the stalk was so my aftermarket cruise control kit would have the appearance and feel of being OEM ( vs adding the cheapo generic dash mounted control module which looks HOMO ).
My brother said old cars would use a floor switch near the pedals that you just step on to switch between HI and LO and that I should do that. -

I had a '65 Ford with a switch like that. Except it had been rewired to operate the wipers..
I'd test resistance across the column switch contacts with a multi meter. First ascertain that the internal switching mechanism is actually working properly before installing it. During install pay attention to any moving parts that interface with the attachment points. It may be that perhaps a spring-loaded attachment point is improperly seated in the lever. That's my best guess. -

If it is there is relay in the old Multifunction switch that you have to swap over to the new one.
Its very easy to miss. -
