I believe Esstern Europeans aren't interested in migrating to western Europe at anywhere near the rates necessary for long term economic viability in these richer nations. Eastern Europe can be shitty but it's still not that shitty, especially as these countries move forward and develop.
But that's an interesting idea. I fired off an email to that same friend on this idea. I'll let you know when he gets back to me. -

We are talking about unemployable people who don't plan to intigrate into our culture. They have no interest in western values for the most part and won't make sure to keep western values alive with their birthrates so they won't be viable to the western world no matter what. Not even as slaves.
We have exploited eastern Europe just fine the last decades. There are still millions of people looking for work here. Lots of them stay. We really don't need African refugees for our economy. That's just insane. -

Well no, we also talking about educated specialists. The people fleeing these warzones come from all strata of society. Not that that should matter; the primary purpose here is that they are refugees from war torn areas, not economic migrants. But we can turn them into a positive asset for Europe as well. Again, the United States is a shining beacon for how to make integration actually work. Europe is fucking up. You're arguing from a position of "fuck the refugees", but no sane person in real life wants to make that their moral imperative. Europe wants to help these people, which is very admirable, but they're not doing it right. If they do it right and stem the creation of cultural ghettos where these refugees become isolated and shit, you won't have these problems. Obviously things need to change, but not in the way you think.

I see reality with my own eyes and get information from people who are directly involved in the integration of those people. The crimerates among Muslims went up ~50% in the past year in my state. State with the second highest Muslim population in Europe.
I don't have a "fuck the refugees" attitude at all. I don't blame the people for looking out for themselves but it's delusional to say Europe needs African immigration to keep being Europe. It doesn't work.

In regards of general criminality the group is with a factor of 5 under the average of all refugees but still 5 times as criminal as Germans per 100,000.
