SWIM & sure others. Where do you find them. especially after the unfortunate events surrounding KAT arrest and take down. Looking for alt options, potentially more discreet.

    Thanks.

I use torrentz.eu when I'm looking for a game or software or something. If you're a big consumer of a particular type of media then private trackers usually offer superior selection. What.cd is the key to getting an invite anywhere else (almost every gazelle tracker advertises in WCD's poweruser section, and many others).

RARBG updates TV releases faster than TPB. Think of release groups that were very active on KAT and search the names.

I wrote about Tribler before. Are you familiar with the concept, Sophie? It was a while ago and it didn't seem to take off (incentives, human flaws), so understandably memory of it will have lapsed in most who did.

It's similar to how OpenBazaar needs to supplant current models of Darknet sites. Their smart contract implementation is fascinating.

And there was this recent announcement for a tumbling mechanism from Mycelium (Dark coin and wallet and possibly other cryptocurrencies and wallets having the same aim).

There needs to be a move toward decentralization, and as an ancap I'm sure you understand the general benefits. The problem is the masses. Consumer demand, the median consumer is ignorant/unknowledgeable/poorly read, has a low level of intelligence, and is lazy; this shapes markets. Regression to the mean. It's not a flaw of capitalism and I certainly would never advocate authoritarian central planner like Lanny, it's simple the unfortunate nature of reality. Humans are flawed, who would deny this? It's far leftists (communists/socialists/Marxists) that by far have lead the most destruction, suffering, and death; reason being that due to their psychological profile it's practically a leftist version of fundamentalist religion. It's the dogmatic true believers who gain power/authority (very negative effects on people), who have the qualities that allow them to rise to the top and are willing to see things through to the end, that are the most dangerous, diverting blame to "capitalists", the long-term impact of "capitalist society", and other nonsense, easy simplistic scapegoats that can be built up to give the illusion of profoundness (Chomsky is a prime example of this archetype of jackass that draws and is revered by pseudo-intellectuals), rather than accepting, or even attempting a truly fair analysis, of whether these faults may be intrinsic/biological and sufficiently immutable to achieve their utopian vision,

“A general “law of least effort” applies to cognitive as well as physical exertion. The law asserts that if there are several ways of achieving the same goal, people will eventually gravitate to the least demanding course of action. In the economy of action, effort is a cost, and the acquisition of skill is driven by the balance of benefits and costs. Laziness is built deep into our nature.”
― Daniel Kahneman, Thinking, Fast and Slow

Not the quote I was looking for, unless it stemmed from this or was a variation of it, but it's satisfactory. The original I remember was something along the lines of, "If you want to predict the actions of the common man assume that they they attempt to meet their goal with the least effort possible."

What should be focused on is marketing (A well produced and easy to understand video outlining the basics and massive advantages, using past examples of shut downs and exist scams would be an excellent start) and user interfaces that are simple to use, highly convenient, and secure. If it's properly structured worries from concerns of it drawing attention by noobs tidying up the gene pool and their parents being unwilling to accept that little Billy was just a retarded imbecilic fuckup doomed one way or another ; since it wouldn't be capable of being taken down.

People are just so fucking stupid, thought. It took me only a few hours at most from being a total noob to understanding all fundamental steps, and a lot of that time was comparing sources for the best method of acquiring BTC and storage (wallet) options, some info for beginners on opec everyone should know. For a depressing view on this, which was conducted at UC Berkeley in California USA and is considered in line with the Ivy league schools (The US already has the majority of the highest ranking universities, making this more pronounced), skim through the paper "Why Johnny Can't Encrypt." *sigh* There's good justification for pessimism.

Back to torrents, a very beneficial strategy would be for major torrents news sites to focus on the concepts of decentralized systems, their ease of use which isn't significantly different from centralized sites at all, benefits, etc. and stressing that it takes time for a community to grow, don't abandon it due to insufficient content right of the bat, but that once it had properly been accepted as the new standard you would have a treasure trove within an impenetrable fortress, this would never be an issue again, but it's going to keep happening if users keep returning to familiar systems when comparatively tribler isn;t difficult to set up and use at all.

Hooray for Python and Dutch computer scientists. In any case it was conceived by the technical university of Delft and Amsterdam as part of government funded research into P2P and censorless sharing. Which is fine and dandy but recently there's been a push to log user data to prevent "abuse" of the system.

Not only as ancap but as developer i recognize that there should be a move to decentralisation and open source in general as far as security, usability and sustainability is concerned.

Yes, well i would argue the reason the masses are stupid or uninformed rather has to do a lot with government interference in and of itself. Especially where security is concerned, it is not in the benefit of the government to have proper security models developed and implemented in an open-source and fair manner, which is why they effectively push to downplay the importance of personal security and privacy and hinder the general process for the sake of national security. Which is just the statist way of saying "government security".

    No contest here.

    Couple things.

    [greentext]>people are stupid[/greentext]

I'm sure everyone who has ever had an opinion on anything feels the same. I'm not sure it follows the libertarian/ancap model to say we are the supreme arbiters of truth. Because if that were the case we should get on board with the technocrats. Instead as you allude to, we should let the market decide. It's not a failure of the market Billy and Johnny are retarded, if we want our product(Better security practices in this case in general) to be adopted we need to be able to demonstrate a tangible benefit that's outside of the abstract "it's better because of these empirical facts" way of thinking rationalists would be prone to.

On your recommendation i skimmed the paper you mentioned, which only stressed for me the importance on the part of the developers to design systems and interfaces that are easily used and adopted by the general public.

This might convince you or me but as discussed not Billy and Johnny, i am of the opinion we should just let government kill itself, just leave it to it's own devices of imposing so many sanctions and rules(copyright laws and ungodly sentences and what have you) that it becomes more convenient for the general public to use better security models on their own than to go to prison or pay massive fines. Just like any government program, they will end up achieving the exact opposite of what they set out to do, it just takes some time unfortunately.

What, it was government funded? Goddamn the state, it ruins everything. Someone needs to leak the source code so others can use it a basis for other decentralized P2P torrent software.
