Windows 7 and 8 updates spy on you.

Rootkits are very easy to detect and remove. You just have to know what to look for and how to challenge it. Rootkits are really no different than any standard virus or trojan, although they do usually operate at a much lower level. As for "the malware adding the registry key as system32", that doesn't make much sense. Do you mean the malware masquerading as a Windows core component, such as a .dll or an .exe? That's still not an issue. There are slight differences between the properties of the genuine file and the doppleganger, and if you know how to tell the difference, it's not hard to kill it and replace it with the original file, even if it's been injected into the core component's process.

There are techniques for privilege escalation on Windows which will allow malware to add things to your system as the system itself. These will be protected even from admins, think about how you can't remove your system32 folder even with admin privilege. Alsoe, rootkits are quite a bit nastier than your average malware and you need special software to detect and remove them. Which usually involves booting up into a special AV scan from CD or USB.

I can unlock any protected file or folder, including the system32 folder and all the files in it, with an UNLOCKER. It's not hard. Rootkits will usually use the boot sector and such to attempt to hide themselves, but that's not an issue either if you know what to look for, and I do. No AV scan or boot disk required. I can get rid of any low level rootkit simply using MS-Dos at bootup.

Fine you can unlock system files with an unlocker, IDK never used that software before. But you simply can't get rid of rootkits in the way you propose.

Like I said, rootkits are basically just glorified RATS. They hide themselves a little better, and they are a little more tricky to remove, but they are far from the advanced viruses I've seen in my day, which I can also remove. I can remove basically any threat in existence today which doesn't kill the hardware right away.

started to post a response to each of spectral's posts but the quoting got tedious and I realised it'd benefit no-one so have this instead:

I permanently removed windows a few months back for this and other reasons. currently running debian and there's literally nothing I need to switch back to windows for - even steam works well enough; around 1/3 of my library is lunix-compatible and nvidia releases up-to-date binary driver blobs.

I would have enjoyed the extra pwning of spectral but fair enough and yeah, i should permanently switch to Linux as well.

If you could spy on anyone here, who would you spy on and why?

Yeah, difference being back in 1996 Spectral's 'knowledge' was at least still somewhat relevant.

I said ANYONE HERE. Is your cousin here? NO. That being said, you should fuck your cousin in the ass when you have your sleepover. Tell her it's a super-secret cousin treat that all cousins do and never let anyone know about otherwise a 5-eyed demon-clown will come to their room every single night and stab it's talons into their eyes and ears and drink all their blood while cackling maniacally with circus music playing in the background followed by killing their parents and siblings and best friends, or something.
