I invented something I call the "hybrid ramp"
-
2025-02-12 at 4:23 PM UTCIt's a ramp which is allowed to have one step at each end. It's much safer than stairs cuz the farthest you can fall is one step. And it's usable by someone using a walker or even a wheelchair if they have someone to tip them up and down. But it's much shorter than a full ramp.
I used it on my modern trailer design. Makes you feel like your are on grade.
Also used it on my plan for high-density, low-rise, Chinese family housing. No elevators or stairs, just hybrid ramps. It would be like living in a hillside village. No fatties. -
2025-02-12 at 8:22 PM UTCI don't really have a design for the Chinese thing but it would go something like this.
*Basement: utilities and storage
*Ground floor: shops
*2nd floor: one story residential units
*3rd & 4th floors: parking garage
*5th & 6th floors: Two story residential units
*Roof: park and school
You'd have bus ramps going up two stories to the parking garage.
Features:
*Kids bedrooms are one floor from the school and park
*Single and retired people are one floor from the street
*Everyone is one floor from his car
*Families are four floors from the street but they're young
*Single story units are one floor from the bus
*Double story units are two floors from the bus
*One parking space per single story unit and two for double story units plus guest and employee parking
*Utility elevator for moving heavy items and people in wheelchairs
I'm assuming it would take up a whole block, or more. -

I have never in my life seen one and I'm old. They are always designed for wheelchairs.
High density family housing without elevators or stairs would be especially good for the Chinese. They do not do well with elevators. They don't maintain them and won't even change a burned out light bulb. And stairs are dangerous, even for kids. -
