Assuming they are copper pennies if they were melted down they would be worth roughly $12k

isn't it only 2% copper now?

    Post 1982 or pre 1982?

I didn't see this in the statement of his.

based on AI weigh its over 5k so yeah, wow. lots

    Final Answer

The total weight of pre-1982 pennies in a standard 55-gallon drum is approximately 1424.58 kg, and if melted down into pure copper, they would be worth approximately $5413.40.

Elon wants to round everything off to dimes .

he's going to try and get congress to rid pennys and nickles. I think its a good idea because nickels and penny's wont buy shit without a massive pocket full. parking meters give 1 minute

    Post 1982 it's calculations is

    Final Answer

Based on these calculations: copper is significantly lighter than zinc

The total weight of post-1982 pennies in a full drum would be approximately 208 kilograms, and if melted down into pure copper from those pennies, it would yield about $45.84 worth of copper.

8000 pennies in a gallon, copper pennies have 2.95 grams of copper, and copper is $4.30/lb.

I think that's about what it was when I first had the idea to start doing that in 2011. I would have thought it would have gone up a little. You could have at least protected yourself from inflation though.

I also learned even modern nickels were worth more in whatever metal they use than $.05 but I didn't know how you could separate everything.

You could just have all your savings in nickels. It would be a lot harder to steal too.

When you superheat all the coins, the different metals separate into layers, like sediment.
