Yes, during the Monday Night Raw promo on Netflix they basically admitted to this. Yes it's fake, so is Games of Thrones, Young and The Restless and The Simpsons but that doesn't mean they don't have characters and storylines in which people become invested into. It doesn't mean the products are bad. I think it was smark for WWE to admit this in their first debut to a streaming network.
That's the biggest main criticism of wrestling and with this new Netflix era they are trying to shed that reputation and bring it more into the mainstream along the likes of UFC or Boxing

I never got into wrestling but I did see a documentary explaining how it's like a drama with characters and like plots so you're watching an action play and that really helped me understand how people get so into it. I'm still not a fan because it's like any other movie or show to me but now I'm able to better understand how people enjoy it and have their favorite characters and get into the drama of the performance.
