2024-12-19 at 12:57 AM UTCWe went to Austin before. It was an OK town but that was early to mid 80s. they had these ugly shacks like the size of a FoxFoto kioske. but just a shitty old wooden shack and a line to the driveup window. looked like a tool shed with a round about drivethrough.
I think it was called Burger Shack (Which I think is a franchise now?) and the burgers were charbroiled and best fucking shakes ever. really tastey and cheap. scarey cheap like 2 dollars back then for the whole meal.
then we got drunk in a fucked up old bar. I wasn't old enough to drink but got served because the bar tender was fucking drunk.
Texas isn't what it was 4 decades ago. It's becoming LA. Your state will be like 50 Million by 2050 or some shit. Fort Worth will be like LA soon. sprawling smog city. and hood rats.
El Paso was fun. they had a giant amusement park literally on the border with the Rio Grand with old adobe shacks across the river and Mexican women getting water from the river. It was so weird to see that. third world next to a developed country. I'm sure Juarez has developed since.
