When we got ours (Staffordshire Blue nose) we kind of were spooked but it was playful and so I brought it home and it protected my kids whenever someone came to the door. it would show it's true nature to protect and die for its owners.

At least with cats you don't normally have to worry about them attacking you unless it's in a playful way.
