Kash-for-Kids Judge Sentence Commuted

  1. #1
The corrupt former Pennsylvania judge convicted of funneling juveniles to for-profit detention facilities in exchange for $2.1 million in kickbacks had his lengthy prison sentence commuted Thursday by President Biden.

Former Luzerne County Judge Michael Conahan, the jurist at the center of the so-called โ€œKids-for-Cashโ€ scandal, was among 1,499 commutations the 82-year-old lame-duck president granted in the largest presidential act of clemency on a single day in modern history, according to the White House.

Conahan, 72, pleaded guilty to racketeering conspiracy charges for his role in the scheme and was sentenced to 17ยฝ years in prison in 2011.

He was released to home confinement in Florida at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in June 2020.

At the time of Conahanโ€™s sentencing, the US Attorneyโ€™s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania described the judicial scandal as โ€œthe worst in Pennsylvaniaโ€™s history.โ€

More than 2,500 children between 2003 and 2008 were potentially given disproportionate sentences by Conahan and Ciavarella in order to populate the private detention centers paying them the kickbacks, investigators believe.

Basically a company called PA Child Care that ran a juvenile detention prison wanted more clients, so they bribed judges and officials to withdraw funding from government operated facilities and to send as many kids as they could to their facility, even when not warranted. Somehow they more or less got away with it and are still operating.

    Pure whataboutism.

Biden should have stolen the drop on Trump and pardoned all the Jan 6th people, just to make them seethe.

Biden likely had a valid reason for his actions, and you have no idea what you're talking about.

Unlike Trump, who runs around acting like the head of a crime family, doing whatever he wants with zero regard for rules or consequences, Biden actually follows procedures and respects human rights. Biden doesnโ€™t treat the country like his personal playground, throwing the law out the window just to satisfy his own ego. Sorry if you don't like that.
