Deflagration to detonation transition. Uncommon but can happen with certain low order explosives.
In general, there are high order and low order, with high order exploding at detonation velocity.
Of high order, there are primary and secondary.
Primary is sensitive to shock and friction usually and only used in small amounts.
Mannitol hexanitrate is something that is sort of between secondary and primary.
I guess it can be thought of as medium, in terms of sensitivity between the two -

Good point, normally it deflagrates, but if the density is lowered with acetone it can be detonated with a blasting cap. Elsewhere not all of the material detonates and some is wasted.
Double base smokeless powder, at least, is made of two high explosives, nitrocellulose which normally only deflagrates or burns rapidly if you ignite it, and nitroglycerin which is sensitive but stabilized by the NC
