"Do You Sell Cars?": Elon Musk Pokes Fun At Jaguar's New Ad, Company Responds

British luxury automaker Jaguar revealed its new logo on Tuesday through a vibrant branding film. The rebranding features a diverse cast of models dressed in bold, techno-inspired outfits, showcasing the brand's modernised aesthetic. The ad focuses on futuristic visuals, abstract concepts, and bold taglines like "live vivid," "delete ordinary," and "break moulds." However, the launch surprisingly didn't showcase any of Jaguar's iconic luxury vehicles, leaving internet users puzzled. Among other social media users, billionaire Elon Musk also ridiculed Jaguar's new ad for lacking cars. He tweeted, "Do you sell cars?"

Jaguar responded with a witty invitation to a Miami event, hinting at a potential upcoming reveal. "Yes. We'd love to show you. Join us for a cuppa on 2nd December. Warmest regards, Jaguar," the carmaker replied.

The ad and rebrand are part of Jaguar's shift toward an electric vehicle (EV) future. By 2025, Jaguar aims to offer an entirely electrified model range, with plans to phase out internal combustion engines. The new logo, stylized as "JaGUar," features seamlessly blended upper and lower case characters.

"It is a powerful celebration of modernism – geometric form, symmetry and simplicity – demonstrating the unexpected by seamlessly blending upper and lowercase characters in visual harmony," the automaker stated of its new logo.

However, internet users noted that the ad lacked substance and was overly focused on style, drawing ridicule across social media. Viewers were left scratching their heads, questioning if Jaguar was selling luxury vehicles or auditioning for a fashion show. One user wrote, "Umm where are the cars in this ad? Is this for fashion?

β€œIt’s about this timelessness that’s seen as contemporary, but has a newness and familiarity to it,” said brand design director Richard Stevens. He joined 18 months ago from MAP Project Office. Here, he heads up JLR’s 800-strong design operation.

Stevens’ role was to transform the name into a brand, and move into the world of experiences. The brief included creating a device mark (logo), strikethrough, colour palette and two maker’s marks.

For the Jaguar logo, Stevens’ team have dropped the boxy uppercase design and introduced a new, rounded, minimal font. The name is written lowercase, save the β€˜G’. The β€˜j’ and β€˜r’ mirror each other.

β€œThe strikethrough is a recognisable code,” says Stevens of the linear stripes, β€œthe universal graphic that transcends language.”

The new colour palette comprises primary colours, yellow, red and blue.

The maker’s marks are a newly reimagined Jaguar β€˜leaper’ and a monogram – a roundel with β€˜j’ and β€˜r’ in it.

There will be a small number of Jaguar stores, the first of which will open in Paris to coincide with the first new-look, all-electric Jaguar model in late 2025 or early 2026. These environments will also be designed by the in-house team.

β€œThis is about a reset,” said Glover.

This relaunch is the first to come from JLR, which also comprises Defender, Discovery and Range Rover.

β€œWe don’t have any brands, we’re on the journey to create brands,” said Stevens, who is restructuring and growing the organisation’s design capability on a vast scale. β€œNow we’re developing the identities. They’re just four names at the moment.”

    Some bizarre shit.

Jaguar has a strong brand, it's what aging over-paid managers going through male menopause buy in order to feel energetic and vigorous again. They're not a sexy customer base, but they have money and the patience to deal with Jaguar's famously shit reliability. But apparently Jaguar don't want that constituency anymore, and are going to pivot to selling luxury cars to woke 14 year old girls.

Their cars suck and hardly work.
Resale value of a 5 year old Jaguar is like $4k.
    They are a joke car.
Basically what a Mercedes is to a black person but to old fat white guys instead.
