I've noticed this with drug addiction/alcoholism too. Like half the people I know with addict/drunk parents stayed away from alcohol their whole life and the other half are as drunk or high as their parents were while they raise the next generation of you know like burdened children.
Always makes me wonder how much is genetic predisposition and how much is environmental.
