What happened was that after WWII, Eastern European Ashke J*ws with little to no connection to the region bought around 5% of the land in Mandate Palestine which Britain didn't own in the first place.
They then used their foreign influence and financial power to arm an army of terrorists (Lehi and Irgun literally called themselves terrorists) who killed or drove the majority of the locals off their land in the Nakhba, and conducted a campaign of bombings, assassinations and attacks against civilians to drive the British authorities out so they could claim the rest.
The Haganah was the 'official', 'legitimate' J*wish authority of the time and tried to keep its hands clean of the genocide/ethnostate project, and many of the terror attacks against the British were attempts to destroy evidence that the Haganah was in charge of Irgun and Lehi (which the IDF eventually grew from). They famously bombed the King David Hotel for this purpose as there was evidence of their involvement stored there, then back in 2006 Netenyahu dedicated a memorial there blaming the British for the deaths resulting from the bombing because they 'didn't evacuate in time'.
