Iran Has Launched Missiles At Israel
-
2024-10-01 at 6:31 PM UTCMiddle East tensions are rising.
Iran has launched 100+ missiles at Israeli population centers, including towards Tel Aviv. Seems the Iron Dome wasn't able to do a great job at intercepting them, as a bit of Israeli infrastructure has been razed in Tel Aviv.
Just hearing about this now. News stories are like 20-30 minutes old. Expect Israeli escalation and US aid to increase. Not sure if the US will send "ground troops" but keep in mind that this decision would be extraordinarily unpopular with isolationist sentiments increasing in the US again.
Take my predictions with many grains of salt, and my analysis with a grain of salt. Still pretty early for specific analysis but we can get a general idea of what is happening.

They primarily targeted airbases, radar stations, intelligence posts and anything related to planning and orchestrating the attacks that killed Nasrallah, Haniyeh and others, as well as equipment and troop concentrations in the north near the Lebanon border. There were recorded hits on offshore oil platforms and rumours that significant numbers of aircraft were destroyed on the ground but we're unlikely to get a clear picture of how effective the strikes were for a while.
The weapons used this time were all ballistic missiles which only gave israel a 15 minute window between launch and impact, and the activation of missile forces was detected by US surveillance roughly 2 hours before firing. IRON DOME cannot deal with modern ballistic missiles, it would've been up to the much less common and more expensive ARROW and DAVID'S SLING complexes. The combination of their overstated effectiveness and relative rarity contribute to what appears to be (looking at the videos available) a low interception rate.
Judging by the videos these missiles were boosting and maneuvering well into the terminal phase which makes them especially hard to intercept, and several videos seem to show a small number of hypersonics among the missiles.

There were already reports of US Military units being prepped for the middle east, this will only accelerate things.

Seems that Israel is going to have a rough time with ICBMs even with the Irone Dome.
Not even because of the tech, also because of the sheer capable volume from hez and ham, not even mentioning Iran. -

Iron Dome can't deal with these, they're too fast and maneuverable - it's meant to be a relatively cheap counter to makeshift missiles and the old rocket artillery Hez has been using.
Typically they'll have planes in the air to intercept but I didn't see any of that; either they moved the bulk of the air force out of the country (I heard a lot were moved to Jordan temporarily) or there wasn't enough time and they were kept in protected positions/destroyed on the ground. There are a lot of rumours about aircraft losses given the primary targets were airbases but no actual confirmation.
In this case they would've had to have relied on naval interception from allies and the more advanced ARROW and DAVID'S SLING complexes but I just looked it up and they only officially have 2x batteries of each which is nowhere near enough to deal with such a massive number of missiles even if they were as accurate as advertised. -

i read that its normal procedure of any airforce to send their planes into the air durimg an attack as thats the best way to minimize lost during a ground attack. -

Iron Dome failure, at least in part, is now evidenced by increasing reports of missile touchdown in Tel Aviv. -

can't really confirm but Iran supposedly used hypersonics to kill multiple anti-missile radars to open the way, and people are saying at least one of the hits appears to have destroyed an ARROW/SLING battery with all the visible secondary explosions -
2024-10-02 at 4:30 PM UTCIt's not a failure, the system has an upper limit and it's only by the will of their neighbors that the limit of this dome has not been exceeded, which is why they need YOUR SUPPORT every year for the next 100 years to expand the limit forever because they are "defending" themselves.
Face it folx it's a bad investment from a military logistic standpoint, a gigantic money sink and Trump is a huge sucker. Israel is right that they need to "take out the skeleton" so they can explore the cave safely. You cannot ignore the skeleton because the skeleton will shoot you. But they "aren't allowed" to attack their neighbors just like Ukraine isn't allowed to perform deep strikes into Russian territory with NATO weapons -

Could have also been a weapons cache. -

yeah could've been anything really, I saw the video and it's impossible to tell for sure.
Iran has explicitly said that ABM systems (specifically radars) were targeted though, and hitting those with hypersonics to make it much more difficult to deal with the regular missiles is exactly what Russia has been doing in Ukraine.
there are also indications that israel's anti-air network has been degraded in that Hezbullah's been able to use those ridiculous BURKAN missiles on IDF positions in the north uncontested, but that could be unrelated or they just got lucky. -
2024-10-02 at 6:46 PM UTCAlright, confirmed minimum number of Iranian missiles launched is ~ 180 missiles.
Confirmed that 2 US destroyers took part in attempting to intercept them, firing off ~ 12 interceptors. It is unknown how many missiles that the destroyers intercepted successfully, if any.
US has sent "thousands" more ground troops as well as F-16 and F-22 jets to Israel. -

LOL even behind the Litani, Hez could fire those little shits at Tel Aviv. -
